Attention Houston area Democrats: Disenfranchisement alert
I posted this a couple of days ago and got hardly a response. I originally saw this in the Seattle paper. This is my HEARTFELT PLEA to be vigilant and NOT let Texas become like Florida.

I was raised in San Antonio, went to A&M and lived in The Woodlands for a while. I know where Waller is and had a distant relative who attended Prairie View. I live in New Mexico now and we have our own problems (e.g. 'where did that box of votes come from?') but Texas is considered 'home' to me.

PLEASE keep on Houston area Democratic activists, as well as organizations like MoveOn, NAACP and LULAC to keep an eye out for other attempts at disenfranchisement throughout the area, especially around Texas Southern University, the Ward, etc.

http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/news/081704_APlocal_suit.html

"Charleston said when Kitzman lost a battle earlier this year to keep students at historically black Prairie View A&M University from voting in Waller County, the intimidation by Kitzman against those who spoke out against him increased.

"The whole thing just shows a pattern of seeking to undermine the civil rights of African Americans," Charleston said."

Thank you :-) This is just too important.

1. The question to ask is...
Are those kids counted in any census as citizens of the county. Little else matters.

2. As long as school doesn't get out before the end of March
April 1, 2000 was census day.

3. The question to ask is
are they registered to vote in Waller County.
Little else matters.

a 2000 census is irrelevant for that purpose
