Al Gore in Houston recap!!
He was awesome. Like a rock star.

See my recap here: http://muse-musings.blogspot.com/

Tipper was there, he was hilarious, says he is not planning on running for President and I believe him.

West Houston Dem and others are out carousing without me. I was invited, but am too whipped! I'm sure you'll hear more from them, also!

Wish you all could have joined us.

1. My President ROCKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Ditties, Lisa and I got to meet him and Tipper before the event. This world would be soooooo much better if he had prevailed. I think he left the door open to run again. We'll see.

2. Gore/Obama
Gore has the experience and the respect in the world to be President.
Obama has everything else to learn what it takes. And he could be a very viable canddiate for President after Gores 8 years.

That is one killer killer duo.

And you know if the US would rather vote for a bunch of dumbass republicans, then fine, I would just be proud as hell to be behind these two.

3. He was VERY convincing about not running. To me, anyway.
I was looking for the open door and I was surprised how much he closed it. Yes, it was open the tiniest, tiniest crack, but honestly he really seems serious about beating the drum on global warming.

Lots of Al and slides. Coming to a city near you.

Believe me, the audience was ALL about wanting him to run. It was SO MUCH fun to be a part of such a supportive crowd. We showed him the love.

He is SO funny. There was a funny bit about gold bars and the earth on a scale. And then he says, "get out the clipboard." You had to be there, but it was the funniest thing. I hope that is in the movie.

I authored a teacher's guide to the IMAX on Kilamanjaro about five or six years ago and I worked with two of the scientists that Gore kept referencing. The guide is actually a poster with six classroom activities on the back. I want Al's autograph on it! Two of my activities are on global warming and six years later, the situation on Kilamanjaro is even worse.

Lots of scary stuff. Makes me want to save the planet.

4. Agreed!
We drove three hours to be there, and it would have been worth triple that. I was able to catch the movie in Philadelphia just a few days ago, and while most of it is based on the slideshow, there are some great scenes just more about his life. Highly recommended.

I think I agree with Muse while I would like to agree with WestHoustonDem... ;)

It seems like he is realllllly consumed with this and believes he has the ability to draw more attn to the issue of climate crisis outside of the Presidency--we had tickets to the reception and I thought all about what I was gonna say to the President...lol..and when i got up there, all I could say was "Please, please, please, please, please run." He shook my hand and smiled and gave the generic answer "I'm not planning on it but thank you for the sentiment."

WHICH i do suppose does leave the door a crack open...

And Muse is also correct in saying how HILARIOUS he is. He must have really wanted to be a standup comic. If anyone needs any poli reading that is a little out of the norm I recommend "Clinton and Me" by Mark Katz who was their admin's "joke writer" and in the book he talks about what a great sense of humor Al has, it was definitely showcased last night.

5. The thing is, he never flat out says NO, I am NOT running.
He always qualifies it such as "I do not have any plans to become a candidate," or "I do not see a scenario in which..." I'll believe him when he makes it EXPLICIT. Until then, I will HOPE!

6. It's a pretty smart move, imo
by saying he has "no plans at this time," he keeps the possiblity out there but is just enough on the "no" side to keep the repubs from starting early on the Gore-bashing. Let 'em beat up on Hillary & look like fools when she doesn't run.

8. oh, and here's what he said about Iraq
"It is the biggest strategical mistake the US has ever made."

Wow. TONS of applause for that one. He took questions from cards and that question was asked - basically, "comment on the war in Iraq."

9. What a different world we would live in if Al Gore had taken office
He won it after all. Oh how I wish this was Gore's second term. It would have been great.

History will be a harsh judge of bu$h and the miserable failure he has been. Bush stole a presidential election (2 of them even) and just created misery and wrecked havoc in this world. All to appease his ego and enrich his friends. May he spend eternity in hell when he gets there.

10. I saw Al Gore in 1988
at an election eve rally in a hanger to GOTV for Dukakis. I thought to myself, "There's a future president." I hope someday to be right.

11. That's AWESOME.
I hope so, too.

The event last night was amazing. Best thing I've been to in ages. Living in Texas (even in Austin, the hotbed of liberalism, Portland in a sea of Mayberrys), it gets depressing. It was wonderful to be surrounded by such positive, supportive, open-minded people.

I know Al could feel the love.

And, just because it's my official mantra (tm), he will run, and he will win. Mark my words.
