Sekula-Gibbs is in, Eckels out for DeLay's seat
http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/3807669.html

<snip>Houston City Councilwoman Shelley Sekula-Gibbs is in and Harris County Judge Robert Eckels is out of the Republican intraparty battle to succeed departing U.S. Rep. Tom DeLay.

Because DeLay, R-Sugar Land, won the GOP nomination for a 12th term in the March primary and then announced he would step down, the nominee on the November general election ballot will be selected by party leaders in the four counties that are part of the 22nd Congressional District.</snip>

1. Yawn.
Like she has a shot in hell. She might be the only GOP'r to be able to carry the Harris County part of the district, but she's too moderate to get the nod from the committee of idiots they have deciding these things. I mean these are the guys who helped write the state GOP platform that calls for abolition of the UN, etc....

But this bodes well - we want a recognizable name or two in the mix, so that the machinations are more transparent. Snakes on a plane, dude....

3. Also, Bettencourt is out
Who, according to Eckels has the most name recognition among the likely contenders.
