Anyone else excited about nearly all of our candidates?
When I went to the two conventions (for the first time) this year - senate and state - I have to admit I was expecting it to be full of nothing but major repub-lite delegates and candidates. (after all, this is texas)

I was also expecting to be turned off enough to most of them to want to vote green by the time I left.

To my surprise, however, the VAST majority of delegates and candidates seemed VERY progressive. Not Kucinich level progressive, but certainly not anywhere near repub-lite.

Is the party experimenting this year (i.e. seeing if progressive candidates do better than repub-lite candidates)?

Regardless, I'm very excited about all of them. Instead of leaving wanting to vote green I left wanting to vote 100% straight democratic, and excited about the prospect of actually getting progressives in to office here. I hope others are excited about them as well, and that as many of them as possible are elected.

1. No.
Democrats don't win elections in Texas anymore.

I urge all Texas Democrats to leave the state and move to swing states where their votes will matter.

7. Thanks!
I agree about VanOs. I heard him speak several times at the convention and at the last DFT Meetup in Austin. He never fails to satisfy.

3. Welcome to DU!
And, yes, I agree with you completely. I do not think this is an experiment to test progressive candidates. I think this is a wakeup of Texas Democrats realizing that you can't when elections with repub-lites and a going back to grass roots Democratic campaigning. People will be surprised by the votes in Texas in November. We may not go Democrat statewide, but this will be closer than a lot of people imagine. I tend to be really optimistic and think that Kerry/Edwards will pull the Texas electoral, but I'm told I hang around with too many "like thinkers" to have a feel for the outcome. We'll see.
