Borris Miles Worries Growing...
hi
Ive been posting on du now for years and this is one of those times tx dems that I must engage in debate again for the sake of the ideals of our party. Im in dist 146, yes the one with al edwards. at first I flirted with endorsing miles, until I did something shocking. after receiving conflicting reports on borris' donation to gop candidates I went myself to the ethics commission online and yep-found nearly 8,000 dollars in donations to rick perry's governor campaign and to our alito loving friend, kay baily hutchinson. several of my other dem friends have confronted him on this as to why and his response has always been "I did not make the system, but we got to make with what we have." when probed further comes the slogan "got to pay to play." then I got angry. looked into his campaign treasurer, theldon branch. any of u guys know who he is? in sum, he is a bush pioneer, has raised 100,000 bucks for our dear king george's reign. of greater note is his stated opposition to bill clinton's minimum wage hike in '96. you see this guy owns a bunch of whataburgers in town. nice isnt it. now Im alarmed-why on earth, would any good democrat have a guy like theldon as your treasurer? this is a solid dem dsitrict. solid. we need a solid dem like al bennett I think who wont trust a bush pioneer and anti-wager on his campaign. many area progressive dems I know are growing very angry at the situation. here are some links to go to and look all this up yourself if u do not believe me ( I know, I did not believe this at first either.)
thanks

Theldon Branch and his wife, Ester, have made a fortune off of Whataburger, Wendy’s and Church’s Chicken franchises. Theldon Branch threatened to lay off burger flippers in 1995 if the federal government raised the minimum wage to $5.25 an hour. Branch sued Wendy's International in 1998 for $150 million, alleging that it would not sell him Houston franchises because he is an African American. Wendy’s countered that it sold the franchises to a white competitor not because of race but because Branch bounced checks to the company and lacked “financial strength.” Branch abandoned Wendy’s in 1999, selling off his five franchises. He also operates duty-free shops in airports in Newark, Miami, as well as at George Bush Intercontinental in Houston and got rights to open a General Motors dealership. The Sierra Club backed Branch’s failed 1991 bid for a Houston city council seat. In 1994 Branch also made a failed Democratic bid for the Texas House.

1. old news
He gave a boat load more to Democrats.

Had the first fundraiser for Obama in Texas.

Look at other issues before getting hung up on this.

Al Bennett garners key endorsements today.

Dear Friends & Supporters:

With less than 30 days left before the March primary election, I am thrilled to report that many local Democrats are lining up behind my candidacy for state representative District 146. This past week, I received three very important endorsements: the Harris County Democrats, the Harris County Tejano Democrats, and the Houston BlackDems. And as you know, last week I was endorsed by the Houston GLBT Political Caucus.

All four (4) of these endorsements have boosted my campaign to a new level. I greatly appreciate the confidence that these organizations and their respective members have placed in me. Each organization is highly respected, known for upholding democratic principles, and very active in the electoral process.

In addition, District 146 voters received the campaign’s first mailer this week. The reception has been very positive. More mailers are on the way and they will point out to the voters the very important differences between me and the other candidates for District 146.

I am very excited and extremely motivated as I continue to block walk, visit churches, civic clubs, and speak to voters who want to see a change for District 146. However, there is much more to be done before the March 7th election. As we approach Election Day, the campaign is still in need of volunteers. As we undertake this grass-root effort to get people to the polls, I need your help. Join the campaign team at our headquarters and show your support for my candidacy. We are located at 1819 Southmore Blvd. Our phone bank system is up and running and in need of volunteers. The phone bank will be operational from Monday – Thursday, 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. We intend to call every registered Democrat in District 146 and ask for their support and for their VOTE.

Finally, we are still block walking and will continue to do so right up until Election Day. For more information regarding campaign activities, please call Ms. Donna Smith at 713-529-9630 or visit www.AlBennettForStateRep.com. Together, we are the change that we want to see in our community. It’s time for a “New Voice, New Priorities.”

Thanks for your support and Let's Win on March 7th.

Al Bennett
