Dallas--blog the Dallas Morning News!
From today's blog, Sharon Grigsby who claims to be a Democrat:

"You know, this kinda nonsense is enough to make me renounce my party roots. I don't personally want Alito on the bench, but he's a more-than-worthy candidate, we found no smoking gun and we have MANY (the Patriot Act, for starters) pieces of business the Senate can be a player in ... But no, let's just grandstand ... and for what cause? Maybe this stirs other liberals, but it's showboating and obstructionalism for no gain in my opinion.

"Sometimes the Democrats are their own worst enemies."

1. done!
I beg to differ, sometimes people like yourself are the Democrats worst enemies! You advocate that they once acquiesce weakly to a terrible nominee who will swing the Court sharply to the right, promoting a dangerous vision of an imperial presidency, showing a contempt for women's rights, a history of rulings which have been reversed by the higher court, rulings which have consistently been made in favor of big business and the government at the expense of the citizen.

Many of us have had enough of naysayers such as yourself, jumping upon your soap boxes and proclaiming loudly that the party is dooming itself to irrelevance by making a courageous and principled stand (finally) to an atrocious nominee. I am doubly appalled at your ill considered post in light of the fact that you are a woman, who I would think would be even more disturbed by Mr. Alito's positions. Did you not watch the hearings? You appear to be woefully ignorant of his stances on many of the most important issues.

2. Great response!
Since she referenced their own editorial as one that "says it all," I sent her the one from the New York Times calling on Democrats to get a spine.
