powertochoose.com has saved us some money!
We switched to Gexa from Reliant this spring (thanks, PDittie). We also tried to tighten the house up by wrapping pipes, replacing an old, inefficient refrigerator, caulking windows, etc.
The past two bills I've gotten, mid-summer, were at least $100 less than last year's. Yeah! So, I highly recommend you try this website and, if possible (I know it doesn't apply to all areas in TX), make the switch!

1. Nice!
My savings haven't been nearly as much -- maybe $40/month tops -- but just knowing my money is not going to Reliant (contributors to DeLay's legal defense fund) or TXU makes it worthwhile.

2. I am not in Texas - what is the diff between Gexa and Reliant?
Energy source? I am looking for ways to reduce my use!

4. The price? I kid!
I think the industry has been deregulated in TX, so there are a number of smaller companies reaping the benefits and charging less. Reliant is still responsible for keeping things working. I'm not really sure; perhaps PDittie or someone else with more knowledge can answer in depth. All I know is TX has options for selecting power companies, and it's working for us.

3. Just called them - don't let the $200 deposit put you off
You can get a letter of credit from your current provider and if there is no more than one late payment, you can switch without deposit even with crappy credit otherwise! 866-961-9399

5. Hey, WHD! I didn't have to pay a deposit; I argued
that I had been a customer in good standing w/Reliant, so the Gexa rep. waived the fee.

6. Your credit is probably better than mine. LOL
Those of us who are credit challenged, need to prove we pay utility bills on time. TXU is faxing me a letter of credit. $2 well spent.

7. Can you switch to Gexa in your area?
I'm convinced it was a good move.

8. It's already in the works
all I have to do is fact the letter of credit from TXU to them when I get it.
