New LTTE to SA paper re: Rove
Today, the SA paper ran an editorial about Rove-gate. Unfortunately for them they decided to go w/the RNC TPM which says he didn't commit a crime because he didn't know Valerie Plame's name. Ah well.

Here's my LTTE. They still haven't run the one I sent earlier this week so I figured, what the hell.

If Karl Rove did not know the name of Valerie Plame, how did he know she was Joe Wilson's wife? This spin on the treasonous act committed by Rove might work if we lived in a country where men had more than one wife at the same time. All Matt Cooper had to do was google Joe Wilson to get his wife's name. Doubly unfortunate for Rove is the fact that the specific statute he violated says "identify" not "name."

1. Isn't it interesting
Only a few months ago, the standard right-wing talking point was that the leak was unimportant because "everybody in Washington" knew that Plame was a CIA agent anyway, so secret information was disclosed. Now we are supposed to believe that Karl Rove didn't know her name or what her job was!

3. Excellent point Tanuki
Raw Story has the link to the talking points the GOP is using. Make sure you get familiar with them before you listen to the spinning heads on TV. The GOP bots are marching lock step in spewing this over and over.

5. nail, meet hammer
If you haven't written an LTTE with this specific point, you should. Especially if your local rags are mouthing the new RNC talking points that "he didn't know her name."

2. Good one DG
More than one wife - ha ha. Well if Joe Wilson was a Mormon living in Utah he might of course have multiple wives.

Let's not forget the real focus here, whether Karl Rove used Valerie's name or not he knew she was working with the CIA in the area of WMD, so he should have made sure that he was not compromising anyone's covert identity. Not knowing the law is no defense against committing the crime. Either way Rove was a partisan political hack trying to discredit Wilson and he didn't care to make sure we wasn't compromising national security. The repukes would never buy "I did not know her name, nor name her" defense if this had happened in a Clinton administration. They would be holding hearings right now.

7. Pathological liars
Every time I hear a repug speak, I'm reminded of Jon Lovitz's
Tommy Flanagan character. Every pathetic plan or statement
that they come out with - almost every one - that is not
supported by the truth, reason, or facts, they resort to the
lie. "Karl Rove was uh,uh discouraging a reporter from
writing a false story based on a false premise, and he didn't
say her name, yeah, that's the ticket".
