In case you haven't noticed, Kinky Friedman is nuts
O'REILLY: So phony politicians are your main goal? You want to get them out?

FRIEDMAN: I would say. I would say. Yes, when democracy is flourishing in Iraq and in Lebanon and places like that, it's being stifled in Texas. That's...

O'REILLY: Do you really believe that democracy is being stifled in Texas?

FRIEDMAN: I believe that voices like Ross Perot (search), Pat Buchanan, Ralph Nader should be heard. They don't have to be president. Give 'em a chance. That's what the guys at the Alamo died for, is to give us a choice besides plastic or paper.

O'REILLY: OK. But Texas is such an independent state. I lived there for two years. You could win.

FRIEDMAN: It's very...

O'REILLY: I mean, you could -- I mean, stay away from Willie Nelson (search). I mean, you don't want him on the bus.

FRIEDMAN: He's my energy, Bill.

2. 'He's my energy, Bill'
should have been transcribed 'he's my energy bill.'

Art Bell interviewed Willie Nelson over the weekend. He is a biodiesel advocate. All his buses use it.

3. At least he's a benign nutjob.
Unlike his predecessor TX politicians (ie, psychopath/egomaniacs).

7. We've had worse
Remember that really bad governor we had once? Executed all those people, but said he was "Christian?" Tried to turn West Texas into a toxic waste dump...

...you know, that guy in the White House? :)

Seriously, Kinky's an entertainer--a writer and musician, not a politician. But that can be good for the debate. I've heard him say some really plain-spoken common sense things about choice, education, health care, things that ordinary people want to talk about. I think he'll enliven the debate, anyway, and force the politicians to talk about issues we care about.

9. We can do better
I'd rather we have someone who has stood up for integrety in politics and doesn't treat the governor's race as part of a marketing campaign for his latest novel. Someone like Chris Bell.
