Upcoming Dallas Peace Events:
On the Dallas Peace Center Calendar

Thursday, February 17, Noon-12:45 p.m.
Women in Black Vigil
Every Thursday, Women in Black will stand in a silent vigil at Ferris Plaza (Houston & Young streets, across from the Dallas Morning News and Union Station). Women in Black is an international network of women activists that silently challenges the concept (the reality) of violence and occupation as a viable approach to conflict resolution. This is an action exclusive to women. Please wear black as a sign of mourning. Callas DPC at 214-823-7793 for information.

Friday, February 18, 7:30 p.m.
Amy Goodman of Democracy Now
Internationally acclaimed journalist Amy Goodman, host of the national daily radio/TV program Democracy Now!, is on a national tour to mark the launch of her first book The Exception to the Rulers: Exposing Oily Politicians, War Profiteers, and the Media That Love Them. Join us for this exciting event at the Haveli Banquet Hall, 1800 Valley View Ln. (South of Highway 183, near D/FW South Entrance), Irving. $5 suggested donation. Come to the 6:30 p.m. Pre-Evant Reception at Haveli Restaurant with hors d'euvres for $25. Tickets available at event site only. SUDAN LEGISLATION PROGRESS!

Dallas Peace Center Director and State Representative Lon Burnam's bill, HB 815 "A prohibition on the investment of state funds in private business entities doing business in Sudan,” has now been referred to Committee.

Please call or write the Chairman of the the Pensions and Investments Committee, Rep. Craig Eiland (D-Galveston) to voice your support of this bill to ensure that the State of Texas's investments are not used to further the bloodshed in Sudan:
Hon. Craig Eiland
P.O. Box 2910
Austin, TX 78768
512-463-0502
512-463-0149 (fax) *

Even though the US has sanctions preventing American companies from doing business in Sudan, dozens of international corporations active in Sudan are traded on US stock markets. Sinopec, Total, PetroChina, ABB, Alcatel, Siemens, ONGC, Petronas, and many other firms continue to operate in Sudan. Many play a crucial role in Sudan’s oil industry, which generates revenues that allow the Khartoum regime to to finance its campaign of genocide.
