"Welcome home, Bubba - you're under arrest."
Edited on Sun Sep-26-04 06:24 PM by Hardhead
Local wingnut vandal to be arrested this week

Up in Cumberland County, in the Crossville area, the local dem party has been having problems with people stealing Kerry signs. In particular, large 4 foot by 4 foot signs which cost $100 each have been disappearing. (Here in Putnam County, we're having similar problems.)

Local police found many of these signs recently at a private residence - where they had been used for target practice. The owner of the property in question is a truck driver who is currently on the road. He's due back sometime in the next couple of days, and he's in for quite a welcome. As soon as he gets back in from off the road, he'll be taken into custody - and he doesn't even know it yet.

The collective value of the signs could make this a felony charge. :) So welcome home, Bubba. Your ass is going to jail!
:toast:  Pardon me while I gloat. Shadenfreude is the best medicine.

2. GREAT! Someone was finally caught!
I guess I know because I'm on DU but ..don't these people think that just maybe their signs are going to be stolen?

I live in an Apartment house whose landlady voted for bush the last time even though she is a Dem..because she is a bleeding heart Catholic who "can't stand to see all those babies die".

I wonder what she thought of all those babies in Iraq who were bombed to death? :grr:

4. I hope he is prosecuted
and if found guilty, given the stiffest penalty available. Hope that the case gets lots of publicity and that you keep us informed. Folks in other parts of the country with similar problems would like to have hard copies of the case and what happens to deliver to their local Republican headquarters.

5. So he'll get a slap on the wrist - damnit!
Some guy makes a joke about a burning -ush in a bar. Secret Service alerted, the guy is thrown into jail.

Some guy uses a big sign with the word "Kerry" on it as target practice for guns. My money is on that he gets a high-five from the judge.

6. I don't think he will get off lightly
If he had stolen one or two signs, perhaps. But he has stolen many, many signs. And at least one of the local judges is a good democrat. I'll be scanning the paper for word of this when it comes out.

7. Make sure the press gets it....
Don't rely on them to actualy do their job. Have someone at headquarters in your area type up a press release for them, including the accused name as well as all the information you have about the crimes. Then supply it to all local media, the Tenneessean, ect. These kind of crimes need COVERAGE. It goes directly to the hearts of independant voters when they see how many of these bush supporters really act. Nobody with a stright head on their shoulder likes to be associated with this kind of behavoir.

If news outlets start getting MULTIPLE press releases along these lines, from all the various party chapters across the state then their news directors will DEFINITELY cover the story. The more reports they get, the more likely they are to give the coverage more weight. Providing video is also a solid sell.

9. The Horrid-Citizen probably won't be too interested
The Crossville Chronicle likes to fill out the paper with the police blotter, so our little malefactor will find his way into print one way or another. But yes, I'll be watching for news and spreading it far and wide. It's my civic duty!

11. ***UPDATE***
He went to jail, but he groveled first. I wish I could remember his name, but I'm lousy with names. Anyway:

The cops arrested him. On his release, he offered to pay the Cumberland County Democratic Party twice the cost of the signs if they would drop the charges. They said no. Then he wrote a whiney LTTE to the Crossville Chronicle complaining that having a record would make it hard for him to find employment in the future. What a whiner. I'm not clear on whether his letter was ever published - the Chronicle doesn't publish LTTEs on the website.

The thing that basically stopped sign vandalism in Cumberland was the local party offering $500 for info leading to the arrest & conviction, etc., etc.

And a freeper is going to jail!
:bounce:

12. Great News.....
We are still having problems here in Putnam County...Naturaly the Republicans aare blaming the Dem Party...but I believe they had some one realy stupid putting up their 4 by 8's they put them as close to the road as they could get....and at busy intersections...naturaly they will be removed....and the Dems are not doing it.....

We are having an Open House this comming Sat...from 12 to 5...Live music, candidates ...if only half of the people who have said they are comming shows up we will have a huge crowd...I expect some to the Repub's might show up I know they are upset we have been so busy...our office is full, almost from the time we open till we close every day...

Edited on Sat Oct-16-04 03:04 AM by Hardhead
I'm hoping to make the Open House, but my SO is very ill with pneumonia, and I'm not sure I'll make it.

I was at the last gathering, the Harry Jacques memorial at Dogwood Park, and there was some really excellent music. I had discussed paying for an ad to publicize the open house with Donna Rogers, but circumstances prevented me from doing it, so I'm glad to hear the turnout is expected to be high.

If I make it, maybe I'll see you there. :hi:

15. Was Jenny the donkey's name?
It was a pretty animal. I was there right as they were getting cranked up (I'm in terrible need of a haircut and my lovely SO and her dog Daisy were with me). Ten minutes after we arrived, I noticed my SO, who has pneumonia, was wearing high-heeled shoes and NO SOCKS. I hustled her out of there and back home.

She's as stubborn as a mule.

I wish I could have come back and enjoyed the day, but things are really hectic for us right now.

Glad it was a success. I hope I can make it by the office and do something useful before this is all over. I believe we're going to beat those bastards this time. Too many people are angry.

23. Ack. I can't
I'll be working extra long hours this week. I'm going to be doing good to make it to early voting. (We're upgrading all our pooters and software at work.) I don't even have time to surf DU more than a fifteen minutes a day (!!!). I'll be covered up until Friday evening. What's going on Saturday & Sunday?

Feeling bad.

Beginning at 6:30 Twin Oaks Community Center go out Willow towards Burges Falls...stay on Cookeville Boatdock Rd...go 4.4 mile to Twin Oaks...

I would like to get some, to hit the big parking lots with hand outs...

Cooking on the Square is next Friday but we all we can do walk around wearing our buttons...I may have Gereld bring in his sign mounted on the trailor and if we can find a good parking place just hand out stuff from it...

Will try to keep the phones busy too...

Tuesday night we will watch the returns at the Baymont Inn...starts at 5 but many of us who are working will not get there until the polls close...Just bring some kind of finger food to share...

27. I may be able to come by the office Thursday
If all goes well, I may get a few hours off on Thursday, assuming I haven't had a nervous breakdown by then. Breakfast sounds appealing, but I never promise anyone that I'll be somewhere that early, hehe.

I will only get to listen to the election on the radio or online. I'll be working very late that night. Weekly newspaper deadlines are hell.

20. sign killer
I have an Idea... We smother them with kindness... We should forgive this man and show everyone in the world that we are the party of compassion. I think that the way to most peoples heart is through compassion and understanding... and if we show compassion to this ne'er do well then we will appear to be compassionate and forgiving ...therby garnishing us more votes on election day which is our ultimate goal....correct????
