Grassroot Democrats South Dakota Newsletter - April 2005

The Works of Grassroot Democrats
With your financial support, in 2005, Grassroot Democrats South Dakota will implement many projects to promote progressive action in the Sioux Falls Area.
Grassroot Democrats goals are:
1. Conduct training events for volunteers and candidates.
2. Create a centralized database of voters and volunteers for the Sioux Falls area.
3. Promote action and organization at the precinct and neighborhood level.
4. Get a unified progressive message out via free and paid media outlets.
5. Provide a staffed office space with a full time Executive Director.
6. Conduct a voter registration program to increase the percentage of voters registered as Democrats

Grassroot Democrats is initiating a "Democrats Make America Stronger" marketing campaign and has several large mailings we will be needing help with throughout the month of April. Please call 331-7917 or e-mail [email protected] if you can help.

Wellstone Action! Civic Dialogue on Social Security
On April 19, from 7PM - 9PM, Grassroot Democrats will be facilitating the Civic Dialogue organized by Wellstone Action! The Dialogue will consist of a discussion about Social Security, values, and how to talk about the issue using values-based messaging. It will also include several action steps that people can take to begin applying the lessons of the Dialogue to the current political debate.

We have room for 30 people to participate in this dialogue at our office, located at 101 S. Mail, Suite 501, Sioux Falls. We need your RSVP right away to determine if additional meeting times or locations and facilitators are needed. If you are interested in participating please send an e-mail to [email protected] or call 605-331-7917 so we can send you the discussion guides and some brief articles to review prior to the civic dialogue.

Liberal Book Club
On the third Thursday of every month, Grassroot Democrats hosts a liberal book club. The group will be meeting 7:30 PM April 14th at Café 334, located at 334 S. Phillips, Sioux Falls (12th Street & Phillips avenue) to discuss The Essential America: Our Founders and the Liberal Tradition By George McGovern

Mission Accomplished?
Grassroot Democrats South Dakota doesn't think so.

Grassroot Democrats South Dakota will be holding an event May 2nd, on the anniversary of President Bush's Mission Accomplished speech. The event will commence 7PM at Disabled American Veterans, located at 1519 W. 51st St, Sioux Falls. We will be featuring gourmet Middle Eastern cuisine from Sanaa's and the Honorable Jim Abourezk will be our guest speaker. A portion of our proceeds will be donated to the Disable American Veterans. Watch your mail box (snail mail) and inbox (e-mail) for more details and reminders.

Minnehaha County Democrats - New Leadership
Minnehaha Democrats will be meeting Tuesday April 5th at 7PM in the County Administration Building located on 6th and Minnesota to officially elect the new officers who will be leading the success for 2006. Jack Billion is a strong candidate for county chair and has great plans to build and sustain the strong momentum needed to ensure success in 2006. The County Party meetings are open to all registered Democrats who reside in Minnehaha County and Grassroot Democrats South Dakota encourages you to attend - be part of the winning team!

P.S. Only Elected Officials and Precinct Leaders are given an official vote - however several Precinct and District Leader positions are still open. If you are interested in becoming a team leader, send an e-mail to [email protected] to find out if your neighborhood is represented.
