Support Boyd Summers for the State House in Columbia!

We in District 75 (near Ft. Jackson, Midlands Tech and Garner's Ferry in Columbia, Richland County) have something to celebrate in that we finally have a Democrat who is willing to take on James Harrison for the State house. This will be a tough race as Harrison jerrymandered this district to incorporate his cronies and lilly white- far to the right voter base. We have lots of Dems in the district and now we have a candidate, Boyd Summers, who is a real challenger with some financial backing and a lot of enthusisam. He is a fiscal moderate and social progressive which is just what is needed to win this race and oust one of the most extreme wingnuts in the house (and Chair of the House Judiciary committee).

Please let me know if you are willing to work as a volunteer in this race- this can be a real source of pride to be involved with getting rid of Harrison.

1. Research and some soul searching has forced me to

reconsider on this candidate. I had hoped that the Dems could find a good progressive to run for this seat but as a gander at his web site: http://summersforhouse.com/ (and some time spent with the candidate)I realize that this is not the direction I'd like to see my district take. Obvious clue is the candidate's refusal to use the word Democrat anywhere in his literature and vague, right of center stances.

I never thought I'd run as a Green against a Democrat but I'm going to run against the Dem and Republican for this seat. I hope to drum up support against this guy who seems to be at best a DINO and at worst a GOP plant.

3. This is my district

When I saw your post, I was surprised because two big Republican neighbors have Summers' signs in their yards. Couldn't believe that either of these people would support a Democrat.

Maybe Summers is one of the many Richland County Republicans who no longer feel that they can win as Republicans. In the past 5 years, many Repukes that I am acquainted with have changed parties after being told by the Republican Party that they no longer win in Richland. These Repukes were incumbents who wanted to win reelection.

My dad lives in that district; actually it's still my legal residence. (Not a lot of percentage in voting in Lexington Co where I am now.)
