Domestic terror threat is "real" in Pa
The bombing and shooting rampage attack in Norway that left 76 people dead last week is believed to have been carried out by a man against his fellow countrymen. But experts report that the threat of domestic terror is not limited to European countries; it could be down the street.

A spokesperson with the Pennsylvania State Police said that they monitor the activities of four different kinds of potential domestic terrorists in the state: sovereign citizens (militia members, etc.), white supremists, special interest extremists (animal rights, environmental extremists, etc.) and lone wolf extremists. Sgt. Tony Manetta told CBS 21 News that people fitting each of these category descriptions live in Pennsylvania.

"In recent years there have been a number of incidents that suggest there are active domestic extremists right here in Pennsylvania and even South Central Pennsylvania," said Dr. Michael Kenney, a political science professor at Penn State Harrisburg.

Last summer, police in Cumberland County charged a Pennsylvania prison guard named Raymond Peake with homicide in the rifle range shooting death of a local attorney. District Attorney David Freed told CBS 21 News then that Peake admitted to stealing the victim's rifle so that he could help arm his group in its effort to attack the government. Peake provided no further information regarding his group, and Freed declined to comment on the investigation Tuesday.

1. About 20 years ago-I was told by an FBI agent that there
were approximately extremist and hate groups within 150 miles of Pittsburgh.

2. Wasn't it just last fall
when the story broke that PA OHS was monitoring anti-gas drilling activists under the guise of protecting us from domestic terrorists?

As much as I was upset and saddened by the events in Norway, I dislike the "fear factor" tone of the whptv story. I hate it when fear is used to try to manipulate me into tolerating inappropriate government spying on dissenting citizens.

3. Completely true
I grew up in a rural northern PA county, there are many there arming for what they believe is a coming war with who they see as people (others, I.e. blacks, women, homosexuals, "illegal aliens") who want to take away their "rights"... these people are deadly serious, they are racist, they are mysoginist, they are homophobic.....and they will kill anyone that they see as threatening their "way of life" with multi-culturalism, tolerance for alternate lifestyles, secular eduacation etc.....Mock and dismiss these people at your peril! They are preparing and they will act when they feel they are backed into a corner.....Do not dismiss the Tea Baggers, understand that they are operating out of fear, a fear that is irrational and illogical BUT for them IT IS REAL and they WILL act....
