Merkley Hits Back On Rape Attacks
I saw this ad earlier today and I think it's terrific. It corrects the lies sharply, and then expresses the disgust most of us feel with these sleazy ads. I gave some money to encourage more of this.

"..Smith's lies are despicable, and the truth is the exact opposite: Jeff Merkley supports mandatory life imprisonment for serial sex offenders and he voted to double the statute of limitations for sex crimes.

Jeff Merkley is a devoted husband and the father of two young children. Protecting them and keeping Oregon's families safe has always been his first priority. To say otherwise is flat-out wrong.

Gordon Smith should knock off his sleazy campaign. Oregonians deserve better..."

1. Heard any feedback, word of mouth?
I've a feeling the Smith commercials will backfire.

2. I hope to see this one soon.
I don't watch much tv. I had it on for an hour last night, and saw 3 of Smith's "rape" ads. Nothing from Merkely.

Smith seems to be outspending him on campaign commercials.

6. Yeah, it seems as though Gordo and the RNC
are really sweating this one as they're pulling out all the stops and spending tons of money. Good, he can go back to private life as bankrupt as his ideas...

3. Good!
I was really worrying that this particular ad from Smith had a disturbing grain of truth. And I had not seen one response to the accusation, or very many of Merkley's ads for that matter, until I decided to visit DU and saw this ad. I don't watch TV too often, but apparently it's often enough to see all of Smith's ads. Or maybe it's just that I live in Klamabama?

Does anyone have information on the matter, such as the bill or bills in question? For peace of mind's sake, I'd rather see with my own eyes that Smith's ad is full of shit than take someone else's word for it. Problem is, I don't know where to start looking.

By the way, it's great that we finally have an ad that says "I'm Jeff Merkley, and I approve this message" instead of "The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee is responsible for the contents of this advertising"!

4. Klamabama, too funny
I lived there for a couple of years, back in the 80's. It's not quite that bad.

Here's a couple of articles on the bills in question. It was the way this bill was done that Merkley opposed. I don't know how much you know about Karen Minnis, basically she was Oregon's version of Sarah Palin, except not "hot". She was horrible. Dems were constantly fighting her.

5. "Soft on rape" is about as low as you can get for an ad NT
