Certainly we can field one Dem for the entire eastern half of the state.

Walden is currently unopposed.

Each D we put in Congress takes away DeLay's rubber stamp power.

El Gordo Smith we can potentially do something about, as it's a statewide election. Opposing Walden in E. Oregon is a case study in lost causes. However, it could work to our advantage if there's any dirt on Walden that an opponent could exploit, to force the GOP into campaigning to hold what is normally a safe district. But it would have to be something phenomenally dirty to make them even so much as blink. I mean, this is Wes Cooley's replacement we're talking about here, the GOP is so dominant in E. Oregon that having their pre-Walden incumbent LIE ABOUT HIS VETERAN STATUS IN THE VOTERS' GUIDE was not enough to cost the GOP a seat. Here the repukes had a huge scandal on their hands, and still had no trouble whatsoever sliding Walden seamlessly into Cooley's warm seat in the house.

3. The long-term strategy wrt Walden has to be to keep him out of the
Senate. He's popular, nice, wealthy, conservative - very Gordonesque. I can't imagine who could unseat him, but perhaps we can keep him in his district.

4. There was a DUer who ran against him last time and got about 25%
It's worth doing, in any case, because how is the district ever going to flip if voters never hear the other side? Having a Democratic alternative to vote for might also bring out more otherwise alienated left-of-center voters into the gubernatorial and Senate races, too.

5. Does Walden have any ties to Abermoff??
I know he took money from Tom Delay's PAC.... so it wouldn't suprise me if his hands have remnents of dirty money. I'm sure he's purging his donations just like Gordon Smith.

I'm like you... I'm hoping a Democrat will run - but Eastern Oregon is so Red it might as well be Idaho.
