Something is wrong at the Oklahoma Democratic Party
Edited on Wed Jun-02-04 08:49 AM by yelladawg
Oklahoma has the Oklahoma Democratic Party to thank for producing Inhofe, Cole, Watts, Coburn, Sullivan, Keating....The biggest group of right wingers in Congress. They can't find anyone to run in 4 of the 5 Congressional Districts.

The Oklahoma Democratic Party lead by Jay Parmley is a disaster. The Coordinated campaign has hired state wide directors (at the salary of between $3,500 to $5,000 per month) for Lesbians, Blacks, Gays, Labor, Teachers, Indians, Women, but has refused to hire one for Veterans. At a time we have Veteran at the top of the ticket, The Oklahoma Democratic Party refuses to work with Veterans. Something is wrong.

The Band of Brothers for Kerry has registered 3,000 Veterans in Oklahoma in the past 3 months. Akeem and the coordinated campaign of over 80 (Starting at $2,000 per month. Many are getting $3,000+ per months) paid workers has registered how many? Less than 500.

Something is wrong. Until it is corrected, look for more of the same to come out of Oklahoma.

1. I say Bartcop should run the Oklahoma Democratic Party
It may not bring in many knuckledraggers (his phrase, not mine) but it would at least have some fun.

2. I agree
The ODP has no imagination in getting voters to the polls. They lag behind the repugs in registering new voters. All Jay Parmley worries about is to raise more money for his salary ($50,000 plus expenses).

7. $50K isn't all that much money.
Maybe he needs a raise, we do have a Democratic governor.

4. It's really sad that NO ONE
is running against that scum of the earth Sullivan.....and Cole just barely won last time, but no one is running there either. It's disgraceful.

8. Not to be nasty,
but how do you expect to recruit these candidates?

In other words, what should the party be dong that it is not?

18. Well, GEE, let's start here

A little unity would be a good first start, you know beating the drums in support of your party's candidates (like how in the HELL did the Oklahoma Democratic party miss Southeast Oklahoma in the 1994 gubernatorial race???). Applying pressure to get candidates to drop out of the race who have no chance of winning would be another (as in the races for the old 3rd District seat). Not attacking members of your own party (i.e., Mike Turpin showing his ASS in regards to David Perryman in the 4th District race of 1994, Turpin may as well have just openly campaigned for J.C. Watts). Hitting back at the negative repug ads would be another (they all have BODIES, not skeletons, in their closets).

Why in the hell would any valid candidate expend his or her time, money, or energy running for office if their party is too stupid and disorganized to get on the same page. Pat Hall acts like he's clueless about organized labor and RTW, yet he expects them to give money? WTH???!!!!!

19. Good start
The party has a high level of eliteist's running it these days. They ask not what the Democrat party stands for, but how much and how often do you plan on giving.

Jay Parmley, Pat Hall, Mike Carrier, and Brad Carson have decided NOT to go after the Veteran vote this year when we have a Vet at the top of the ticket.

All they want to do is count dollars, not votes.

5. No kidding!
This place is like being through the looking glass. He's a Dem? Really? Prove it! Are the likely comments to arise when mentioning any representative to DC or within our borders that carts a D behind their names.

It is too weird here for words.

6. They don't want Vets
I have begged candidates to sit down with Vets this year. Many have refused. I promise those who are talking with us will get a loyal voter base.

10. Since your profile has you in Alaska,
maybe the problem is that the Oklahoma candidates don't want to travel to meet your Alaskan veterans since they can't vote for them anyway.

Just which candidates have you begged and what groups were they offered to speak to?

9. What jobs do Watts and Keating have?
And how is Parmley responsible for either of those when they were in power? How long has he been on the job?

12. Parmley rejected Vets
Jay Parmley, the state chair has hired coordinators for Labor, Teachers, Indians, Blacks, Women, Gays, Lesbians, Trial Lawyers all at a salary between $5,000 to $8,000 per month. We asked him to hire a Veteran coordinator at $1,500 per month.

Jay told us that Veterans do not deserve a coordinator in the Democratic party because Vets usually vote repug. With this type of rejection Vets will go right on voting for the repugs in Oklahoma.

Right, this is the big tent party?

13. Mike Turpin
In my opinion, things really started going downhill when Turpin was in charge. He and Burns Hargis arguing are about as entertaining as a silent fart.

17. Thought of something else bungled on Turpin's watch
Does anyone recall the stink following Brenda Reneau's election to the State Labor Commission in 1994? She had changed her voter registration from Democrat to republican just prior to filing for office (I believe then affiliation requirement is six months before a candidate can file). If Mike Turpin, and other Democratic leaders, had been DOING their jobs, she could have simply been removed from the ballot and she would be only a memory today.

14. That's EXACTLY What I've Been Saying For Quite Some Time
Ten years ago we had Democrats representing four of our (then) six congressional districts, one Democratic U.S. senator, a Democrat on the corporation commission, a Democrat in the labor commissioner's office, a Democratic lieutenant governor, and on and on. WHAT IN THE HELL HAPPENED? Even traditionally Democratic Southeast Oklahoma voted for Shrub in 2000!!!!!

20. I received an e mail today
from a Monte Johnson of Sallisaw Oklahoma stating that Brad Carson was considering changing political parties after the November election. We know that in the past 2 years he has had his lips locked to the repuke assholes and has done nothing good for us in this district.
Does anyone have any more information about this?? I do know that according to his email this Monte Johnson is running for the senate seat being vacated by Nichols.

21. It's a campaign ad...

Monte is the only real progressive running in the race, and I guess he's decided to lay it all on the line since he's so far behind in the polls.

But, the ad does not state that Carson is actually considering this. Rather, it is trying to be suggestive. Johnson is simply pointing out that Carson, like most OK Democrats, has a Republican-leaning voting record. This isn't surprising since Carson is a Blue Dog.
