Gas on sale - Lima
For those of you nearby (I grew up outside of Lima):

LIMA — It seems gas stations have gotten into the spirit of holiday sales too.
Gas prices are noticeably lower, $1.49 for regular unleaded in Lima and $1.69 in Putnam County, compared to what motorists were seeing all summer long.
It bodes well for the holiday travel season, according to AAA Ohio spokeswoman Susan Stewart. AAA is estimating more travelers than last year because Christmas and New Year’s fall on Saturdays.
One of the reasons for the lower prices is the re-establishment of gas prices in relation to oil prices, said A.F. Alhajji, associate professor of economics at Ohio Northern University.
“The correlation between oil prices and gasoline prices are very strong,” Alhajji said. “In the summer, we saw a debuckle between the prices simply because we had so many problems in the summer that made gasoline prices go up while oil prices were not going up as much.”
Alhajji said consumers can expect gas prices to follow the trend of oil prices for the next few months unless there is a problem in the country, such as refinery outages.
“Refiners are using lower quality oil to get gasoline at this time. The premium between light crude and heavy crude is very large at this time. That premium outweighs the inefficiency of producing gasoline from heavy oil,” Alhajji said. “Heavy oil relative to light oil is very cheap and this may explain why some gas stations have gasoline for $1.49 and $1.50 at this time.”

5. ONU alum here, too
Grew up near Van Wert, St.Marys now, and even get to Defiance now and again....

For some reason gas is always a lot cheaper in Allen County (Lima) Must be some local tax thing. Delphos straddles the Van Wert/Allen County line, and gas prices differ 10 cents or more from one side of town to the other.

6. ONU Alum - 1983
I remember in the early 70's before the gas shortages, they would have "gas wars" in Lima. (i.e. who could sell the gas the cheapest.) At one point it was $0.199.

7. 1985 here ...
with the size of that campus (at the time) I'm sure we at least passed each other on the Tundra a few times (not that you could recognize anyone in winter -- they actually closed ONU this week, but I think only because they were without power, otherwise I don't think our latest natural disaster met the stringent closure rules I recall...)

and I remember my brother swearing in the late 60s or early 70s that gas would never top 50 cents a gallon (HA!)

8. I grew up near Haviland, OH
in Paulding County. My parents now live in Mercer County, OH and I have siblings in St Mary's and Celina. Now I live in Upstate NY.

Hope everyone in Mercer and Allen County managed the ice storm okay. My parents just regained power this morning, and say the area is still a mess.

9. Melted Today
but the trees really took a beating. So many just split down the middle in halves and thirds, which looked really strange after the snowfall. I was lucky re: power, but it was patchy, at that. Lima was (and maybe still is) a mess of downed power lines and closed streets. The NBC affiliate was out for about 24 hours. Today was the first day I drove any distance, and I was worried about high water (justly so).

Expecting big rain soon, and everything's near flood stage. I just keep saying I want to go 6 mos without having an adjoining county declared a disaster area. (Grew up near/family in Van Wert for the big tornado Nov '02, and it's been one thing after another since then, seemingly.) Thought it odd that Auglaize wasn't for this one, though...didn't seem like we got any less than Allen and Mercer. But we lost all the marginal trees last summer or the one before that -- it was awful, I think I counted 10 down just on our usual doggie-walk routes.

(Wayne Trace? Lincolnview -- yours was the only marching band smaller than ours, iirc....a mean feat.)
