Jerry Springer ready for political return
Jerry Springer focuses on Democratic Party, eyes Ohio governor's seat

By Lisa A. Abraham

Beacon Journal staff writer

Jerry Springer is campaigning for Ohio governor. The question is whether he'll actually run.

For months, Springer has been stumping across the state -- at chicken dinners, in union halls, on college campuses -- all in the name of Democratic politics.

His plan, he says, is to revitalize the Ohio Democratic Party.

At the same time he's revitalizing his own political career.

3. Springer was a good TV news anchor
Springer was a good TV news anchor in the 1980's and had rehabilitated his reputation after his prostitute fiasco. Unfortunately, I'm not sure how seriously many voters will take Jerry after a decade of his show.

I have met Springer, and I like him personally. He is very intelligent and well-spoken. My wife and I each have a picture of us with Springer from his appearance at a local fundraiser.

But I'm not sure if he could get past his appallingly ridiculous TV show in a state-wide race.

4. Jerry's ok, but he is not unique
I like his political positions. He had an interview in Free Times last year and I think his positions are good, but not especially insightful (like Dennis Kucinich or Sherrod or Marcy, for example).

His political thesis that he is the candidate for "the everyday working class person" who likes his show was pretty thin on details.

5. Springer is very bright and did some good
stuff when he was the mayor of Cincinnati. He has tons and tons of baggage.

He could redeam himself and get out and stump for Ohio Dems who are running this fall.

There are lots of things he could do that would not seem selfserving.

Who knows?

8. oh, why the hell not, already?
...the Democratic Party in this state is so hopeless with statewide candidates that they cant be hurt any worse than they are by running Springer for something....at least he's willing to be a sacrificial lamb.

9. Yes, the party is helpless, on a statewide office level.
I haven't seen a decent statewide candidate for us in years. Hagan? Who the hell thought he'd be a good choice? We have the cities, but we don't have much else.
