6 Ohio Counties will be using DRE Voting machines in Nov.
Edited on Tue Jul-20-04 02:59 PM by MiddleMen
Not sure if anyone has posted this before, but I just got off the line with someone from the Ohio Secretary of State office so I thought I would pass it along.

As you probably heard the purchase of new diebold systems was delayed until after the November elections. However, 6 counties already use Direct Recording Electronic (DRE) voting machines and will continue to use them until the state purchases new machines in 2005 with paper ballots.

the counties are:
Franklin - Danahur (http://www.controls-online.com/gvs/vs.html)
Ross - Microvote (http://www.microvote.com/)
Pickaway - Microvote
Mahoney - ES&S (http://www.essvote.com/HTML/home.html)
Knox - Microvote
Lake - Sequoia (http://www.sequoiavote.com/)

1. Those are counties we should target for poll watching
along with precincts with large minority populations where voters might be disqualified.

2. I think Bev Harris and the crew at her website
are still gathering people to do just this. I'll be posting this info over there too. (http://www.blackboxvoting.org)

I also have a thread over there with the franklin county election night procedures.

I think I'm going to post here in the state forum to see if we have people in these other counties.

3. You are right. Bev is doing just that.
I think there are some Lake County people around here.

4. Sequoia are Ney contributors
if I recall correctly. Just an FYI.

5. I believe that
It will be very hard to defeat Ney. The state republicans have carved him out a pretty safe district including a little wart in St. Clairsville so that he could actually live in the district.

6. Lake County bought the Sequoia DRE machines a few years ago
They are practically new. I would be really surprised if they scrapped them after the county taxpayers paid all that money ($ Millions) for them. (Perhaps Lake County can sell them to Egypt or Russia, where it does not make a difference if the voters get fair elections.)
