John Edwards in Fargo, ND Saturday 8/14!
AP story: (snip)
BISMARCK, N.D. - Democratic vice presidential candidate John Edwards will campaign in Fargo on Saturday, North Dakota's Democratic congressional delegation said in a joint statement.

Sens. Byron Dorgan and Kent Conrad and Rep. Earl Pomeroy invited Edwards and Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry to campaign in North Dakota, which was ignored by the national Democratic ticket four years ago.

Details about Edwards' visit were being worked out, the statement said. It is expected to include a midday public rally.

Both Kerry and Edwards visited Fargo earlier this year. Kerry campaigned there in February, on the eve of the state's presidential preference caucuses, which he won with 51 percent of the vote. Edwards spoke at the state Democratic convention in Fargo last April.

Many Democrats were annoyed four years ago when the party's presidential candidate, Al Gore, and vice presidential hopeful Joseph Lieberman skipped North Dakota during their national campaign.

Dorgan, who is up for re-election this year, has been particularly active in lobbying Kerry and Edwards to make a campaign visit. Edwards' Fargo stop will also bring the Democratic campaign attention in Minnesota, which is considered a competitive state for this fall's presidential election.

No Democrat has carried North Dakota's electoral votes for president since Lyndon Johnson in 1964. In 2000, President Bush won the state with 61 percent of the vote.

Anyone going? Anyone need a ride down from Grand Forks?

I don't think ND is a safe red state. I've talked to lots of people who voted bush last time but won't again. I think we'll still go red, but it will be much closer

1. this is commendable
sure our chances of winning are pretty slim, but we do have two Democratic Senators and a Democratic Representative. The Dem rank and file will appeciate it--and so will some swing voters.

2. well, minnesota is a "swing state" this year
(which I don't buy, but whatever)
Fargo/Moorhead is pretty much the big metro area for that part of Mineesota too.

5. well, I'd edit it, but the board won't let me
sorry.

but on the other hand, I'd argue that it was within the limit. Two sentences does not a paragraph make.

Maybe a word/char count would be a more reasonable limit?

6. This is awesome!!!
I can't wait, I missed out on his speaking at the DNC and the ND-Dem convention, so I'll finally get my chance! Slowly, very slowly, I think we can turn this state around....it won't be for this election, but someday...
