GREENSBORO — Anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan will speak at a demonstration in downtown Greensboro this month.

Sheehan rose to national attention when she camped outside President Bush's Texas ranch in August 2005 and demanded he meet with her face-to-face. Her son, Army Spc. Casey Sheehan, was killed while serving in Iraq in 2004.

Sheehan will speak at noon April 21 at Phill G. McDonald Plaza as part of a day of anti-war protests that will include marches from the N.C. A&T and UNCG areas. An accompanying Anti-War Fair will include free performances, artwork and other speakers.

The event is being promoted by The World Can't Wait, a group calling for the impeachment of Bush. The national organization has held a number of rallies in Greensboro since its inception in 2005. The group is controversial for a number of its stances, including a section of its Web site that encourages Americans not to vote. The group did not return calls about Sheehan's visit Wednesday.
