2. I would hope he'd come a couple of times
between the convention and election day.

This is a strong military state, and I'd think the miltary folks would love to see him. I would too.

How winnable is North Carolina? I would guess that's the criteria they are using in allocating his time. Alas, he can't be everywhere. Maybe he will send some surrogates.

And it would be a huge mistake if Kerry does not choose Edwards for VP.

6. Well, the biggest reasons would be Edwards and the military.
I don't think the sour economy will be enough to swing NC into contention, because the state is just that conservative. However, if the war starts to go really poorly and it looks like NC could be in play, it might be in Kerry's interest to spend some time in the Carolinas because of the military population.

And of course, if he picks Edwards for VP, he might send Edwards here to barnstorm. Though I don't think Edwards will be the running mate.
