Occupy protest comes to Somers Point

SOMERS POINT Frustrated by a feeling of powerlessness over taxation policies and economic inequality, Ocean City resident Jaime Bowen decided she could do something to make a difference: Organize an Occupy South Jersey protest.

Sunday afternoon about 20 people gathered outside the Bank of America on Route 9, waving signs and chanting, Were speaking up for you. Some held posters that read, I am not your ATM and Tax the 1%.

Occupy demonstrations taking place across the country have gathered momentum since Occupy Wall Street protests started Sept. 17 in front of the New York Stock Exchange. Organizers say the protests have been put together in an effort to take a stand against disparities in the financial tax and health care systems.
