Morris County is getting organized. I may just faint.
Edited on Tue Mar-22-05 03:24 PM by mcscajun
I've lived in Morris County for over fourteen years; today, I received my first communication from the Morris County Democratic Committee. I live in a red town in a red county in a blue state. I've never seen a Dem win locally; in fact, in most local races there isn't even a Dem candidate.

I'm posting a few excerpts (emphasis added) here for any Morris County Democrat who might not get it or accidentally tosses it with the junk mail. There's an upcoming organizing event that is certainly worth attending.

"MORRIS COUNTY DEMOCRATS ARE ORGANIZING NOW -- JOIN US!"

We now have active Democratic Committees in 36 out of the 41 municipalities in Morris County. The number of registered Democrats is increasing, and the number of Democratic elected officials has risen. In November, 2004, we gained 6 more municipal seats, and we anticipate even more success in the next election.

To continue to make our voices heard and to build our party, we must actively engage new citizens and undeclared voters. If you are interested, become part of this "grassroots" movement and reach out to your friends and neighbors to have them join you in expanding the Morris County Democratic Party.

(snip)

We also welcome your presence at a Petition-Signing Event on Saturday, April 9th at 10:00 am at the Democratic Headquarters at 11 Washington St. in Morristown. Please look at our website at www.morrisdems.org for more information.

1. What great news! I wonder if Howard Dean and his outreach program had
something to do with it?

2. help is on the way....!
I just got back tonight from a BlueWave NJ meeting in Montclair--a new progressive group based in Montclair that is getting 150 people a meeting.

Just tonight they had a speaker from Morris: Former State Senator Gordon MacInnes who is one of the few Dems to get elected in Morris county. He was talking about not ceding any ground in red counties. With a lot of energy and enthusiasm coming out of this new group, I can imagine they'll put some of it into working Morris county at some point.

So go to the meetings and get organized. We can ship folks out from Montclair to help down the road...

5. I live in Essex--they are lazy here -- but in Morris they got some balls.
Morris dems have always had more fight in them than here in Essex.

9. actually, Passaic and Hunterdon are, too.
This "coalition" has only consisted of one meeting between Howard Burrell, Roger Hines and Lew Candura, the chairs of the Sussex, Warren and Morris Democratic County Committees. And a couple of announcements at events in Warren county. I renamed the NWNJforKerry Yahoo! group to NWNJDemocraticCoalition, mostly because it was time to rename it something. Nobody was posting much lately. As opposed to the NWNJforDemocracy Yahoo! group, which is booming:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NWNJforDemocracy/

I heard a rumor that the chair of the Passaic County Committee is interested, and some members of the Yahoo! group are from Hunterdon county. I was the "Northwest NJ Regional Coordinator for Kerry", and these people signed on when I invited them last year.

I hope you join.

BTW, where in Morris County do you live? I grew up in Long Valley, but I now live just over the river in Hackettstown, Warren County.

10. I'm in the Rockaways. But I grew up in The Bronx.
:)

I've only lived in NJ since 1989.

I've been out your way once or twice. But as to LV, I love the Long Valley Pub and Brewery.
