...the "American Heritage Dictionary" (ignore the pronunciation guides though)

wheth·er (hweth'er, weth'-) conj. 1. Used in indirect questions to introduce one alternative. 2. Used to introduce alternative possibilities. 3. Either. --wheth·er pron. Archaic. Which. --idiom. whether or no. Regardless of circumstances.
