The Ranch Bowl closed so they could open a Walmart!!!
For those who don't know, the Ranch Bowl was a popular music venue in Omaha for local rock bands and sometimes nationally known bands. And now it's closed so they can put up another Walmart. The worst thing is, Omaha was voted top city for local music only a couple years back and now local music has suffered a big blow. Then they will probably complain that pirating music on the internet is hurting CD sales and hurting music. Good Grief! Who's hurting music again?!?! I will NEVER EVER set foot in this Walmart. I have a good mind to protest it's opening if I can organize something. I'm just so disgusted by this!

1. How many Wallyworld's are there in Omaha already?
Like they need another one, right? I thought most people had caught on to Wal-Mart's scam, I guess there's still some who haven't. Our town fought Wal-Mart and won. We stopped them from building one of their "super-stores" here. It took a lot of fight from a lot of people, but we stopped them.
Keep fighting them and I'm sorry to hear about the loss of such a great musical venue.

9. WalMart.com search found 7 stores within 30 miles
and 3 stores proper in Omaha. There is also one in Council Bluffs, one in Bellvue, one in LaVista, and one in Fremont. The first three here are apparently all Omaha suburbs, so that would be 6 stores in a 16 mile radius near the city.

2. That sucks.
Thank God the Lincoln City Counsel voted no on 3rd walmart at 84th & Adams. All walmarts suck & I do not want another one here no matter where, but they wanted to put it right across the street from cemetery where my husband's grandparents, father & sister are all buried.

3. From what I recall...
the guy who bought the Ranch Bowl from Markel found out later that the building was damn near condemned, falling apart wise. I think he decided to sell the lot (72nd & Dodge lot would bring in a lot of money) and re-open a venue in a new location.

8. I got over it.
The good thing is that good bands are still playing shows at Sokol Underground, and a lot of those kids who always showed up at the Ranch Bowl are staying home now. Saddle Creek is gonna be building a club too. I'm not counting on the Ranch Bowl ever coming back. I like the downtown venues better anyway.

10. One more reason...
...why Wal-Marts should be limited in the number of stores they can put up. Ranch Bowl was awesome. When do they actually close?
