flying freepers at the fair...
Edited on Tue Aug-15-06 10:45 PM by jbm
I had an amusing moment at the state fair tonight, and I thought my fellow posters here might enjoy it also. This afternoon and evening there was an airplane towing a big "Stop The War" banner flying over the fairgrounds and the downtown area of Sedalia.

Everyone kept commenting on the banner, and the responses were all favorable, but no one could figure out what generous liberal group or individual had enough funds to hire an airplane to fly for that many hours. Finally someone came up with a pair of binoculars to see if he could make out the rest of what was on the banner so we could determine it's sponsor. After many, many minutes of careful study through the binoculars, it became obvious that the rest of the banner was supposed to be an aborted fetus, and the "War' was a reference to us evil liberals waging war on the unborn. Without the binoculars, the banner said, "Stop The War", so if you happen to find yourself at the state fair, stop by the 'Missouri Right To Life" booth and tell them THANKS!

BTW-The "Missouri Right To LIfe" people have expanded. They now have lots of anti-stem cell propaganda to go along with their plastic fetus display. I wish I could believe that they would intentionally fly a banner that could be read as "stop the war", since that really WOULD be pro-life, but....somehow I seriously doubt that was their intent.

4. The Missouri Coalition for lifesaving cures..
The Missouri Coalition for Lifesaving cures (the stem cell people) has a booth somewhere on the fairgrounds, but I haven't located where they're at yet. I've spent whatever time I've had at the fair in the Dem tent. It's been really good to be a democrat at the fair this year. The state gave us tons of the "Had Enough? Vote Democrat" stickers, and people are asking for more so they can give them to their friends.

The Republicans have always had a cardboard George in front of their tent, and apparently some passerby ripped Georges head off the other day. The repubs were upset enough about it that it made the news on the radio. I noticed George was back in front of the tent again today, but I couldn't see if it was a new George, or if they had just taped his head back on. I can't stand to look at George for very long, so I didn't take the time to find out.

A few years ago the repub tent was more active than ours, and a lot of people would turn their heads when they walked by our tent. Not this year though....this year everyone is a Democrat.

BTW_if you get a chance to come down thursday morning, Claire and Susan Montee, and all the other political people will be at the Governors breakfast at 8:00 AM.(I know..it sucks that he's a repub..) Afterwards, many of them will be at the dem tent. Come join us if you can!

6. We were there Saturday
Got my Claire bumper sticker and hubby and I both walked around all morning with the "Had Enough?" stickers on. Those stickers must had extra strength adhesive on them, it took me a while to get it off my shirt before I could throw it in the laundry!

Our niece was showing her heifer that morning. I saw lots of folks wearing the stickers, even around the cow barns, which is unusual. Didn't see to many folks in the Repubs booth. I remember seeing the Missouri Coalition for Lifesaving Cures booth, but can't recall where it was.

7. If you're coming next year..
PM me and let me know what day you'll be at the fair. I'll make sure I'm at the tent and we can meet!

Those stickers have gone over really well. Last year the stickers said, "moving Missouri forward" and they weren't near as much fun. If you'd ever like to help staff the tent for awhile, we'd love to have you. You don't even have to let us know in advance..just stop in and say you'd like to help!
