I was called by a pollster today.
It was mainly questions about being likely to vote, issues that drive my decisions and Missouri ballot questions and candidates. The questions started out sounding fair enough. But, they soon morphed into right wing phaseology, such as "cut and run" and "Kennedy liberals vs. common sense conservatives." I started to get upset, and asked the caller if this poll was sponsored by Jim Talent. She claimed not to know. I told her the questions were clearly slanted and to assume I'm a liberal Democrat and check off the answers from there. Then came annother horribly slanted question about the war and Bushes plan for victory. That did it. I cut it off. I can't take this shit any more!

1. What was the name of the organization?
Who was she calling for?

4. I was too pissed to ask again.
She was just a little bit rattled, herself.
No one anticipated an angry citizen/breach of the levees/They'd use planes as missiles.

5. I saw it on the caller ID
It read "KCTV5 News Poll" and the number was 206-278-0087 which is a Washington state number.

Anyway, we didn't make it to the phone before the callnotes grabbed it. Now I'm kinda pissed I didn't.

6. I don't usually mind answering polls.
I can't participate in consumer polls because of my job. But I always take political polls. This one was just so obviously slanted.

7. LOL
When I was a delegate I was doing polls constantly. I did them for the Boston Globe, the NYT, CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN, they were all calling doing their delegate polls. I had one reporter who asked who I thought should be the veep. I said "John Podesta". She said "who?". That's when I knew they really don't care. A lot of the times the people are just reading the questions and waiting for their shift to be over.

I've also done poll calling. One of the hallmarks of the local Dem polls is their impartiality. I remember spending one pre-polling evening going over and over the wording of a question to make sure it wasn't biased. What a frigging waste of time. We should probably be doing push polling. It seems to work for them.

8. You have been in the trenches.
But I wouldn't want to sink to their level. It'd be like rooting for the Raiders. I always feel dirty when I have to do that.

14. It would take a long shower & a lot of scrubbing to feel clean after that
rooting for the Raiders or acting like a Puke, I mean. But hey, once in a while I find myself having to root for K-State, so I know how you feel.

15. I have actually showered on those occassions.
I don't have the strong collegiate ties that you have. Art schools don't have organized sports. But we tried to start one while I was in school. We offered to compete with other colleges in the city in any sport, as long as they understood that we didn't know the rules and had no interest in learning them.
So we ended up with co-ed mud wrrestling, and no other schools participated. And we needed showers.

16. Have you thought about kickball?
I know we've got a local league. Although, as I understand it, a lot of them are in it for the beer afterwards.

Maybe we should challenge those Blue Valley Teen pukes for a mud-wrassling event?

17. We could totally destroy those kids.
There are people in my office who play kickball. It seems wussified to me. But beer is a huge factor.
At my house and with my family, we played street football. We put our beers on the curb, and knocking one over was a severe penalty. And the kids learned to put their hands up and catch the ball, and to stay on their feet. Falling down on pavement hurts.

18. I bet it helped evlspwn too
I bet if you could trace some of her belly dancing moves back far enough they would lead to her dodging some tackles and avoiding the beer cans.

19. Oh, absolutely.
She likes to claim that she's clumsy, and that she gets it from me. But, one day she will recognise that I taught her not to fall down and bust her face.

20. I wish someone would have taught me that
I have a habit of falling down a lot. One of the reasons I was encouraged to participate in sports when I was a kid was because my parents thought it would help improve my bad coordination. I have permanently scarred knees from all the falls I took as a kid. Unfortunately my coordnation problems have continued into adulthood. :eyes: A couple of years ago, around Thanksgiving, I was kicking a rock around on the sidewalk while the pups were busy barking at their nemisis Ralphie, a mixed breed up the block. When we were ready to continue on with our walk I accidentally stepped on the rock that I had been kicking. The result was I tripped and fell over the one foot retaining wall next to the sidewalk and knocked myself out. At least that's what I think happened because the next thing I knew I was staring at the sky and had two very concerned puppies standing over me. I apparently knocked myself out when my head hit the ground. I'm not sure how long I was sprawled out in my neighbors' yard but it had to be at least a minute. After I sat up, this woman who apparently saw me lying there and who had enough time to circle the block, drove up and asked if I needed any help. I thanked her and told her "no" and then limped home.

22. Only if you rubberize the curbs
Edited on Mon Jul-31-06 01:13 PM by Mabus
I wish I were a weeble 'cuz then I'd only wooble and wouldn't fall down. As it is I'll probably just keep falling down. Or, as my dear husband likes to say, "baby goes boom".

I think I'll pass for the foreseeable future.

Instead of throwing a flag, you can throw a beer can.

I know what to expect. I won't go off again. But I'll try to educate the caller and fuck up the poll.

24. That's a good idea
I'd make then think I was a bushbot*, if I answered questions to the right, it'd skew their poll and waste time.
