Missouri House and Senate end funding limits
The Thugs are out of control.

Campaign Finance Bill Passes
By KIT WAGAR
The Star’s Jefferson City correspondent

JEFFERSON CITY — The Missouri House and Senate voted Thursday to repeal all limits on campaign contributions, setting the stage for the end of Missouri's 12-year experiment with controls on money in politics.

The 88-67 vote in the House came after a spirited debate over the wisdom of overruling voters who overwhelmingly backed donation limits in 1994. The Senate approved the bill late Thursday night, sending it to Gov. Matt Blunt for his signature.

House Democrats criticized the repeal, saying it would allow big-money interests to dominate legislative campaigns. The entire bill was a farce, they said, because the conference committee that was supposed to work out differences in the House and Senate versions of the bill never even met.

. . .

Repeal of limits on campaign contribution was never debated in a House committee or on the House floor until Thursday, the second-to-last day of the legislative session.

There's more to these shenanigans than I can quote in just four paragraphs. Go to the full article for details.

1. big money in politics is a huge issue to me..
but overturning the voters pisses me off even more. They did this a few years ago with the conceal and carry issue. Someone told me the other day that elected conservatives assume they are there to rule, and elected liberals assume they are there to serve. I think this is a good example of the ruling assumption.
