The Bible and Political Opportunism in Missouri
Sen. Jason Crowell (R-Cape Girardeau) has sponsored a bill that would "allow public school districts to offer classes in which the Bible is taught" (SB 736).

Americans United for Separation of Church and State, in their Brochure: "Prayer And The Public Schools: Religion, Education, and Your Rights" states the following about bible classes: "The high court has also made it clear, time and again, that objective study about religion in public schools is legal and appropriate." As long as the practice has a "legitimate educational purpose, not a devotional one."

I have just one question: If Bible classes are already constitutionally protected, what is the purpose for Crowell's bill?

1. Oh gawd this is the dipshit who was making siren sounds and
fart noises on the House floor two years ago during the debate on the education budget!! I was hoping he was no longer in the House.

I sent him an email about his fart noises. I told him I taught special ed and my students behaved better in public than he does. He replied with "You are welcome for raising the education budget without raising your taxes". So I replied with a comment that including federal allocations and grants in the education budget and claiming it was increased by the legislature is dishonest and offensive; most of us are smart enough to see through that nonsense. His response: "Thank you for your email".

I have a friend who was in the legislature until he termed out a couple years ago. He said this guy is a major twit. Rush clone - he is from Rush's hometown. He also looks like he is about 20 years old. No offense against 20 year olds; I just prefer my state representatives to be a bit older and LOTS more mature that Jason Crowell.

2. The purpose it to remind everyone
That we live in a state that for the most part believes a certain way and will force it on those who disagree with that belief. The only reason people introduce this type of legislation at a state level is because it would not pass at a national level. If they can at a bare minimum publically endorse church philosophy in schools through our state legislature, then they have a foundation on which to build future arguments for further state mandated control. Crazy, huh?
