An argument over the behavior of a few developmentallydisabled adults attending a matinee in a Joplin theater has pitted a local politician against the group's 20-year-old caregiver, and both are claiming the moral high ground.

State Sen. Gary Nodler, a 54-year-old Joplin Republican, wants a formal apology and a reprimand for what he says was rude behavior on the part of certified nurse aide Amanda Richardson. He claims Richardson used a common four-letter word during the exchange.

Richardson denies using the word, and says her clients are the ones owed the apology.

"He said people like that shouldn't be allowed in places (such as movie theaters)," she said. "In his position, he should be helping people like this."

2. Boy Howdy. I sure don't miss SW MO a damn bit.
Just plain typical.

He: "How do you like Joplin?"

She: "I don't know. I've never Joppled before."

3. I hope that the disability rights people come down hard on him for this.
I hope that his "people like this" comment is crammed down his throat!

5. People like Nodler make me lose my temper.

Whatever the nurse's aide said, I would have said worse. Much worse.

I see he's paranoid too. I know I occasionally take my disabled family member out in public and I don't even look to see if there are any politicians in the vicinity.

6. This just in
American soldier in Iraq uses the f-word in a dispute with two Iraqis. The soldier claims it is not true, while those that witnessed the incident and subsequent murder of the two young Iraqis say otherwise.

7. Unfortunately this infinite scorn and hatred of the poor and disabled...
is reflected throughout the Republican Party -- never more so than by the Bush Administration itself, which is willy-nilly slashing Medicare and imposing dozens of other cuts that maliciously savage low-income people. This Nodler -- the assistant majority leader on Missouri (a key role in the legislative and party hierarchies) -- merely revealed the GOPorker attitude a little more clearly than usual: the core Republican belief that a person's worth is measured solely by their wealth -- that anyone without wealth is merely useless garbage.
