Post your preferred location/date/time for our next KC area meetup!
I know that this is usually Proud2BLib's area of expertise, but somehow I don't think she will mind me asking this.

I know there have been some conflicts over the last few months regarding our meetup times, evenings, and locations.

Typically we have tried to have them on the third Wednesday of the month, somewhere in the Kansas City area. Historically they have been held at Chili's (a big no-no now), the River Market Brewery, and the Westport Flea Market (great place). In June we held the meetup in Lawrence, KS (South Park, to be specific) in order to make things easier on KS DUers such as myself, Mabus, and MuseRider. Also, Muse plays there with a band every Wednesday! However, due to scheduling conflicts and potentially long commutes, we didn't get much of a turnout. Thanks to everyone who did come, however! Of course, some people did show up in Lawrence, but we completely blew them off like the assholes that we are (my apologies to greymattermom.

Anyhow, my calendar tells me that the third Wednesday of July will be next week, July 20. That gives us about eight days to plan.

Here's what I need from you, oh loyal servants... ...uh, fellow DUers, I mean.

Tell us

(1)If indeed Wednesday the 20th will work for you, and if so what time might be best (I'm pulling for 8pm). If not, please indicate what day might work better, in order that we may come to a consensus on what will be best for everyone.

(2)If indeed you will be planning on showing up. Better yet, list that first. If you don't plan on coming, we don't want your crummy suggestions anyway

(3)What type of venue/atmosphere you think would best suit our meetup. We have usually gone to bars/restaurants, but there has been much discussion about planning a picnic in a park. If you are suggesting a picnic, please indicate a possible location and let us know if you have access to a weather machine so we can have a nice, warm but not hot day. If you don't own a weather machine, you can always rent one.

(4)Suggestions for future meetups or KC DU activities.

And, as usual, any questions or complaints about anything regarding them meetup can be sent to Proud2BLib's PM inbox.

Or, just PM me.

1. Repost from the Kansas forum. FYI

Our last concert is that Wednesday. I don't know how everyone feels about coming to it but that is where I have to be that night. I just thought I would tell you, because of some of the positive responses I got, that it is the big 1812 Overture concert complete with cannons blasting, smoky air and with any luck, major fireworks. It really is the best concert we do all year from an audience standpoint. Much blasting and noise and excitement and joy that comes from that wonderful piece of work. I am anxiously looking forward to it in light of recent developments in our government. FREEDOM! Coming to all towns soon I hope.

Whatever you all decide to do, if it is not in Lawrence have fun. I will rejoin the group after this last concert for one last meetup before I start the symphony schedule.

2. I still want to attend!
I know that I can't this time (yet again). We are having Girl Scout meetings that week for the leaders and assistants so that we can begin the meetings for the girls next week.

I will be there someday. In the meantime, someone send naturalselection a pm about this meeting. S/he is new here and I hope to meet them soon (poster is, like myself, from Warrensburg). Maybe we can get him/her to go to the meeting and I can send some yummy baked goods w/ them!

Have a great meetup and post some good pics on here (so I can feel like I was there)!

16. when you have a kid it seems like all of your time
is spent on their activities. Maybe we can meet up sometime (I like Planet Sub for sandwiches) or even to get a cup of coffee and introduce ourselves.

Eat at Planet Sub on regular basis! As I work at CMSU.
Ya, we have a son and it does take more time than one realizes.

22. How old is your son (if I might ask)?
Edited on Thu Jul-14-05 12:08 PM by xmas74
My daughter is five now.

BTW-you can tell which one my car is in town. It's a green Tracer (right away-small car is a tip off) w/ the HeadStart and the DFA bumpersticker (probably the only one in town).

23. My son is 4 1/2.
I probably drive the only Dodge pickup in town with the "Kerry" bumpersticker on it.

I also have a bumpersticker that says "Evolutionists do it ......with increasing complexity" just to piss off the hard core evangelicals.

24. And there are enough of them around here.
Including our sheriff. He's a huge supporter of the Christian Academy over in Centerview.

25. I have to admit though
he has been really good to us. We have a troublesome juvenile that lives in our neighborhood, been in and out of jail, kicked out school, the works.
He has given us his personal phone number if we ever need to report suspicious activity and the deputies are always out around our neighborhood.

Though, now that I think about it, maybe he is keeping an eye on me!

;)

P.S. I will be out of town this week. Maybe we can meet up for coffee or something next week!

17. I want to be there!
It just seems like one thing after another.
You know how it is. Kids just keep you going all the time. Whenever you think it has finally ended to seems to just start right back up!
Who'd thought they'd start Girl Scouts a month before school is even in session?

6. Input
The evening of the 20th looks open for me so far. I'm almost always going to prefer meeting in KC because it's easier on me (especially on a weeknight). And I recognize that people come from other locations, so in fairness I'm not totally opposed to traveling--but KC seems pretty central if we have people who plan to come from Lawrence, Warrensburg, St. Joe, what have you.

I would prefer to meet at 8:00 rather than earlier, in general.

19. What proud2Blib wrote (below) sounds good
Lawrence this time, for those who want to do that (I'll probably skip it). Then back to the Flea Market in August and a picnic somewhere in September.

7. How about my backyard?
It's probably too far away for most. Sometime back evilbastrd offered the use of his yard for a gathering, I don't know if he would still consider it, but it'd be a great thing for some Saturday.
There are many people who can't make it out in the evenings, but could make a weekend meetup.
The advantage also is it's much easier to talk, We who have gone to the meetup's haven't been able to sit in a circle and communicate with one another, and that's the best part of meeting other DU'ers evil or not.
If nothing else, some weekend in September, may I suggest st. joseph and Krug Park, the shelter houses there are on a first come basis, and by waiting until then there is less of a chance of compition for the shelters, and the weather should be perfect for a late summer early fall gathering.
All that being said we won't be able to attend this month, the annual Kickapoo pow-wow is this weekend, it's in Horton Ks if anyone is interested, and were doing our monthly splurge there.

26. My daughter and I would be happy to host a meetup.
I've got a sizeable smoker and front porch, good music and a large house.
Maybe by autumn we can have it clean and ready!
I've also given p2bl info on a park in midtown we can use for a picnic meetup.
Both options are easier on the budget than a bar or restaurant.

30. Do you have a way to blow it up?
I have no technology at my fingertips this summer. They locked up all the cool machines at the summer school site and we only have a black and white copier.

If you can blow it up, go for it. I like the idea. No way any idiot repukes will want to come join us under the turd blossom banner. :)

next Wed. Then in August, we can go back to Flea Market or somewhere in KC. Then Sept, St. Joe or catmandu's back yard (which is nearby).

Comer, thanks for doing this. You're a peach. :)
