Should I be upset about this?
Edited on Tue Jul-05-05 07:30 PM by TheDebbieDee
Thanks in advance for taking the time to read this. I hope you will give me your feedback.

I recently became unemployed and I am searching for a new job.
I registered with Greathires.org. Greathires.org is a website sponsored by the Full Employment Council. The FEC is a private company that has been contracted by the state of Missouri (meaning its services are paid for with State tax dollars).

The FEC is supposed to establish and maintain a website where employers post job vacancies and employees post the job situations that they would like to obtain. The FEC also provides services, workshops and training with regard to resume writing, job hunting, etc.

I also registered with Monster.com and Careerbuilder.com and research the job listings placed on these sites on a regular basis.

While searching through vacancy announcements on the web on June 25th, I noted that the FEC had two vacancy announcements listed on Monster.com. (I used Monster.com to apply for one of the positions.)And while I am not sure whether or not these postions were also listed on Careerbuilder.com, I am certain that these vacant positions at the FEC were NOT listed on the FEC's Greathires.org website. (The last time I checked the Greathires.org website on July 1st, the positions still had not been listed.)

Do you think I am overreacting to be upset about this? I need to know what you think before I take time to consider going through the process of filing complaints.

Thanks, in advance, for your input.

1. I've been unemployed,
and I know what it is like, trying to find a job and coming up empty (I was out of work over a year). Did you apply for the jobs in question that were on the other sites? Did you get any responses?

If you did, I'd mention it to the folks in MO about it-since it is a government program, a word with your state rep may be in order-but keep it friendly, like "I think it would have been more efficient and cheaper if these jobs had been posted at Greathires.org.

Good luck with that job hunt!

2. I live in KS and we have the same thing... only the website is run by the
UE office and not a private company. It often has the most up to date jobs because the employer doesn't have to pay to advertise there. Why would it be beneficial to the state to outsource this? Makes no sense to me....

friendly. If you don't use the exactly correct terms you might not find what you're looking for. In addition, I have yet to find the all purpose search which reveals all recent jobs available as was possible before Greathires took over.

In short, I've found other ways to job search.

Addition: There used to be something called employment wizard which was interesting, but I see they appear to have been swallowed up by someone else and are now less efficient as well. Bigger is definitely NOT better.

5. Greathires is a rotten program.
It's not user friendly at all and there are many jobs that are not listed on there. I have to use it in combination w/ Careerbuilder, Yahoo HotJobs, Monster and ajb.org in order to do any type of decent search.

Of course, what do you expect from our state right now?
