Rep. Gene Taylor
Rep. Taylor rose on the floor of the House on Wednesday to raise a series of motions to recommit, basically parliamentiaian moves to broadcast the fact that the economy is in such a condition that the rethugs are sacrificing social programs for the cost of their war.

I am not familiar with the gentelman, he seems to have leadership qualities.

Would you be so kind as to express your thoughts in the GDP post?

3. He's my Congressman
and amusingly, he is also trent lott's congressman. In fact, a Lott ran against him in the last election. Gene is a tough talking Coast Guard Vet who ensures his voting record is such that Neocons cannot be too successful at targeting him. Many say he is a DINO, however I'd rather he continue to placate the locals then lose him to a died in the wool conservative. I think he's an enigma to republicans. He can be a pain their ass and per recent voting records he's hard to beat. As they say in South Mississippi, he may be a democrat but he's our democrat. I'll do whatever I can to get him reelected again.

5. What do you think his chances are for the US Senate?
Let's say that Trent Lott retires and 2006 is open. How would Taylor do against Chip Pickering?

6. Democrats in Mississippi
It's unfair to characterize Taylor as a DINO. Like someone said, the guy's an enigma to Republicans. It's great to hear him blast Rumsfeld whenever he gets the chance. As far as a Senate race in 2006 goes, here is the way I see it. John Kerry, whom the Republicans built up as the most liberal, flag-burning, gay-loving, God-hating, anti-South candidate ever to run for an election, got 40% of the vote here without campaigning here. So I really believe any statewide Democrat can count on a base of 40%. Trent Lott is more vunerable now than at any time; so we will see. Right now Eric Fleming is the only one to come out and announce that he will run for the seat.

7. I'm talking about an open seat situation, Lott is too hard to beat
I don't seriously think that Gene Taylor could beat Trent Lott, but I was more wondering about his chances against Chip Pickering if the Senate seat were open.

8. Taylor
Taylor will stay in his seat. He does not have quite the popularity state-wide.

He does not want to take on the Ms Republicans.

10. I like this guy!
I heard him speak at the 12 Mile South Coalition Rally today. I made note to look him up online when I got home. He's definitely got possibilities.

11. I remember when Taylor made the paramentry inquiry about social security
And all the republicans were bitching at him in the house, doing things like booing him, telling him to sit down and shut up, one congressman said:"give it up gene" I nearly laughed my ass off cause these are congressman, distingulished people acting like little kids.

As for him running for the senate. he could run but would not win, not because of who he is, but because of the state. remember kids this is the state of mississippi were talking about, the same state that when thad cochran ran for re-election got 85% of the votes.

not exactly the biggest liberal state in the union.

12. 40% of Mississippi voted for Kerry
But the big key is that Taylor's district voted for Bush just about as much as the rest of the state, but they also continue to elect Taylor overwhelmingly.

Democrats can win in red states if they field the right candidates and Taylor might just be the right candidate. Again, I don't think that he could beat Lott, but perhaps he could beat Chip Pickering in an open seat.
