It would be nice if we had a real fucking newspaper here. Natchez has been historically Democratic since Reconstruction, and usually votes as such if I'm not mistaken, but since we have no real newspaper here everyone has their heads up their arse between Fox News Alerts.

6 Weeks ago there were only Kerry/Edwards signs everywhere, then last week Bush signs sprouted up everywhere! They wake up from their Walmart-shopping stupor to vote, then go back to sleep; that seems to be the M.O. of the Bush supporters here.

I can't find a single Bush supporter that even watched the debates! My mom refused to watch them, didn't want to miss Law & Order/reruns/whatever!! She a "clan voter," hates blacks having babies and on welfare and all that; for people like her it's still the 80's and Reagan was the best Pres ever! He defeated communism, doncha know?? Bush is going to defeat Terrorism, doncha know? He's smoking them out!

My best friend got THROWN OUT of his parents house by his dad for even MENTIONING F/9-11!! These people will not let any inconvenience like honest, reasoned debate upset their view of Bush, God, and Country!

What's more, Natchez just elected it's first black Mayor since reconstruction, so maybe there is hope in the numbers.

There has to be, everyone but the business owners are starving, there are no jobs here, International Paper shut down last year and laid off 900 families in a 18,000 population town - with NO other industry but tourism. There's more FOR SALE signs on house lawns than there are BUSH or KERRY signs.

But of course, the Heritage clubs and Garden clubs makes certain it STAYS that way, playing dirty tricks to keep the Nissan plant as far away from Natchez as possible, and that the young are chased off so they don't cause no troubles for the tourists!

Natchez is a retirement community; there's not a goddamned thing to do here but sit around and wait to DIE, or, blow your unemployment check on crack and slot machines.

As much as people are hurting here, I am baffled that there isn't more crime than there is. Of course, we have enough cops here guarding the city limits from terrorist speeders to handle a mini-metro city so..
