U of M lawyer may run for senate
http://www.startribune.com/stories/587/5279953.html

<snip>
Mark Rotenberg, the chief lawyer at the University of Minnesota, planted the seeds of a U.S. Senate campaign by forming an exploratory committee.
...
Rotenberg has served as Minnesota's general counsel since 1992. To date, his political activity has been behind the scenes, such as his 2004 role as a Minnesota leader in Sen. Joe Lieberman's presidential campaign.
</snip>

Sounds like a decent, competnent guy BUT hate to say it, him having anything to do with "Joe-mentum" is going to make it very hard for me to get very excited about the guy.
He's going to have to make one hell of an impression if he's going to go anywhere.

1. Rotenberg is co-founder of Minnesotans Against Terrorism
http://www.minnesotansagainstterrorism.org/about.htm

The mission of Minnesotans Against Terrorism (“MAT”) is to shape public opinion in support of the war against terrorism. MAT promotes fair, accurate media coverage of terrorism against Americans, Israelis, and other innocent civilians around the world..

The non-profit, non-denominational, non-partisan organization, co-founded by Minneapolis attorney Mark Rotenberg and marketing executive Marc Grossfield who both witnessed a terrorist bombing in Jerusalem in December 2001.

MAT disseminates information and educational materials and sponsors events in support of its mission.

2. apparently they even appeared on the O'Reilly Factor to promote MAT
Apparently MAT is all about pressuring the Strib and NPR to be more pro-Israeli.
I don't touch I/P issues with a ten foot pole around these here parts, but Rotenberg's stock is plummeting with me.

Nice catch, Goodhue.

13. your mischaracterizing our concerns
I don't like Joe Lieberman because I think he's a gutless ass-kisser, I could care less about his religious background. I think that Israel, like any other nation, has a right to exist and defend itself - and that, like any other nation, not all of its policies are above critique. Criticism of Israeli / Jewish politicians does not a bigot make, and it's intellectually lazy and dishonest to make the assertion that it does.

6. I don't know how much good Joementum will do him in Minnesota
I think Lieberman got like 2 votes from my Senate District at last year's caucuses. Anyone remember how he did statewide?

And, anyone who's paying any attention to Lieberman won't be impressed. My mom always kind of liked him (though she was a Kerry supporter even before the caucuses) and couldn't quite believe me when I'd tell her what an ass he is until she saw him on one of the Sunday talk shows. She wanted to know why he was "talking like a Republican."

8. Lieberman is just a couple steps behind Zell
It's one thing to try to work with the other side on bi-partisan issues of mutual interest, but the full-blown ass-kissing of the B*sh regime by Lieberman really turns my stomach.
