St Paulites: Ortega is kicking off his mayoral campaign Thurs. Jan 6

5:00 - 7:30 pm at Mancini's on West 7th.

I don't know a whole lot about him and am still looking to learn more. As county commissioner he says his chief interests are mass transit and affordable housing.

I did get a piece of literature announcing this event. One of the best I've seen. Inexpensive, black and white, with a picture of him walking in a Cinco de Mayo parade in St Paul. No picture of wife and kids... Just him on the move! I liked it! There was also a picture of Kelly and Bush together, with the phrase " ready for a change"?. Then a blurb about restoring progressive DFL values to the city of St Paul.

I think there will be a lot of positive energy in his campaign.

The last 2 out of 3 St Paul mayors have been New Yorkers. He has that going for him too. He came here in the late 70's to attend graduate school (Social Work) at U of M.

Maybe I'll see a few of you there.

It would be so-o-o-o good to dump Kelly.

I think they ran into legal obstacles. Unlike California, you can't simply recall a Minn. public official because you want to!

Imo, it was a bad time to mount a serious effort anyway just months before the general elections. Although it did give Kelly some bad publicity which was all to the good.

I don't care who kicks his ass out, just as long as it's a REAL Democrat, something St. Paul got screwed out of with its last two mayors.

4. Considering St Paul precincts went for Kerry about 3-1 it's going to be

a hard re-election fight for him.

Such as when the DFL endorses his replacement. He'll have to recalculate his chances then.

He won without DFL endorsement last time. He may think himself immortal.

I can't vote for him, because I live in Minneapolis, but it's nice to hear someone talking about those two needs of the Twin Cities.
