Not as good a turnout as for Kerry's visit in June, but what do they expect for 9:45 AM on a weekday morning?
The floor and one full side of bleachers were filled in the Sports Pavilion, and the crowd was enthusiastic, not just students, but a lot of people with union t-shirts.
Two of Teresa's sons were there, but I arrived too late to hear them speak. Edwards was introduced by a nursing student, who did a remarkably good job, if it's true, as she says, that this was her first time speaking in public.
Edwards opened by saying that Bush had asked the most important question of the whole campaign during one of the debates when he asked, "Is my time up yet?"
I found Edwards to be a charming and effective speaker, and I was happy to have heard him. On the way out, I saw people with clipboards, who seemed to be having a lot of success signing up new volunteers. I myself signed up to work all day election day, and I heard one blue collar type say that he was working on ten friends whom he hoped to drag to the polls next week.
