Maybe Michelle Bachman (Looney) should be telling T. Boone Pickens
about her revelations regarding oil!

According to Michelle, Pickens must be screaming about the sky falling!

1. Get a free "bruch" on Bachmann in Stillwater Sunday, July 27
This just in from Michele Bachmann's Campaign for the Universe Headquarters:

Michele Bachmann's campaign is giving a "free volunteer appreciation bruch (sic)" at the Water Street Inn in Stillwater this Sunday from 10:00-11:30 am. before Michele's stormtroopers march in the Stillwater Lumberjack Days Parade. So get on down to the Water Street Inn all you Bachmann supporters--downtown Stillwater on the north side of Chestnut St., just before you cross the lift bridge.

4. I have other plans for Sunday that require me to head west of the cities
so I won't be able to attend the parade (and the chance to heckle Michelle almost makes dealing with Lumberjack Days traffic worthwhile). Do you think she'll actually show up? She does seem to do her best to avoid any contact with the public.

5. I'm afraid heckling would be very bad form at the Lumberjack Days parade
These various municipal summer festivals and parades allow politicians and their supporters to participate on the condition that they don't engage in any real politicking, stumping, speechmaking, heckling, etc. The organizers of the parade emphasize to the candidates, in writing, that they're expected to help lend a positive note to the festival.

Bachmann supporters in Stillwater have kept their side of the bargain in the past. I heard no jeers from them when I was marching with Bachmann's opponent, Patty Wetterling, in '06.

Much as I understand the sentiment, I think heckling at this event would be a very bad reflection on Dems and Dem candidates. Any unpleasantness would be exploited to the max by Bachmann. She's quite adept at playing the vulnerable, persecuted victim when she stands to gain from it.

I think the best thing for people to do on this occasion is to lend their voices and their energy to El Tinklenberg or one of the other Dem candidates appearing in the parade.

6. You make some great points about these parades
Usually you can get a fix on how popular a candidate is by whether or not the crowd applauds when s/he goes by - or how many fingers they wave. That should be enough for most politicians to get the message - Bachmann wouldn't get it if had a sign with letters 20 feet tall.

On the other hand, I was at a Fourth of July parade two years ago when Mark "Screech" Kennedy (what has happened to him?) was marching. I was surprised by the number of "stop the war" shouts that greeted him. It did not appear to be an organized effort - it was more like "the wave" with parade watchers picking it up as it moved down the street.

7. Pickens if for drilling in ANWAR too,
and he said on Air America yesterday that he wants to drill 'everywhere' in order to become independent of foreign oil. His does however believe that the future is wind, solar, and natural gas.
