Minnesota's latest contribution to the Wingnut Right is an outfit called Minnesota Majority. I guess it makes them feel good to call themselves a "majority." The first clue to what they're all about is in their sub-title, "Standing Together for Traditional Values." It's the usual slate of fear-mongering hot-button issues: homosexual marriage, illegal immigration, embryonic stem-cell research, blah blah blah. Some of the usual suspects too: Drew Emmer, Jeff Davis, Mary Kiffmeyer.
Their appeal:
Are you tired of a vocal minority:
Dictating what you can say, do or think?
Suppressing your freedoms of religion and speech?
Having more rights than the rest of us?
Telling us that they are offended by what we say or do?
Preaching tolerance while demonstrating utter contempt for anyone with a different view than their own?
Exploiting our legal system to advance their agendas at the expense of our rights?
(Funny--that seems to describe the Religious Right to a "t".)
More on these whack-jobs here
http://www.minnesotamajority.org/Home/tabid/112/Default.aspxOne of the more interesting items there is this, from their health care page, written by one Dave Racer.
A Few FACTS, not fiction
FACT: The U.S. health care system serves the most diverse racial and ethnic population of any country in the world. This fact adversely affects every statistic by which we are compared to other countries. Black women, for a variety of reasons, are more prone to underweight babies than are Caucasian and Asian women. It is not surprising that Sweden has a lower infant mortality rate, or that Japan has a longer life expectancy than the United States does. They are nearly racially pure: we are not.
Mr. Racist, er, Racer goes on to point out this "fact":
FACT: The largest group of uninsured U.S. residents is made up of temporary/seasonal workers, mostly of Hispanic/Latino origin, who are born in a foreign country.
So you, see, it's those damn black- and brown-skinned people who are driving our health care costs up, not Bill McGuire.
Look for more pearls of wisdom from these freaks in the future.
