Bush planning to visit Minnesota
Edited on Tue Apr-20-04 09:48 AM by truthspeaker
From the Strib:

President Bush plans to visit Minnesota on Monday for a fundraiser and a nonpolitical event, according to a report.

The Pioneer Press reported today that unidentified sources said plans for the visit were under way. Neither the Bush-Cheney campaign nor the White House would confirm the Minnesota visit, the paper said.

The fund-raiser was described as a private event in Edina, the sources said. Bush was not expected to stay overnight in the Twin Cities.

Strib attributes it to the Pioneer Press, but I couldn't find it on the PP site.

1. Good.
Now I need to go to the store and buy a few dozen eggs and throw them at that asshole. Who knows...I may get arrested and thrown in Gitmo and charged as a terrorist. :eyes: :grr:

3. Please don't do that-- do something more creative, instead!
Try getting a few friends to clog up traffic in the area, thereby drawing more attention to EL Arbusto and his gang of nincompoops. That way, maybe we can get more traffic around there, and totally snafu his whole trip.

Get a couple of beaters, and have them "accidentally" break down on the route(s) Shrubby is planning on using. Complain to everybody within earshot that since your job went to Mexico, you can no longer afford to maintain your car in working order. And since gas prices are now near $2, you can barely keep gas in your car, too. Crosstown from Edina to the airport is always a pain in the arse, anyway. A little more traffic confusion in that area will also draw attention to the plight of mass transit in town, too.

Or better yet, make a "sandwich board" sign, and wear it without clothes. Put some sort of slogan about how the American textile industry has been decimated by his trade policies-- maybe something like "my clothes WERE made in America". You may want to wear a tube sock for protection, unless you don't mind getting arrested for indecent exposure.

Please don't resort to violence, even though the urge is there. As Abbie Hoffman so ably pointed out, your message gets across much better with a little humor.

12. As junior assistant unofficial legal counsel to MinneDUers
I would advise against doing anything that might cause the secret service to decide they're justified in shooting you dead on the spot.

Keep creative and keep it peaceful - and live to do it again and again this summer and fall. We need ya, Van Helsing.

* this message has not been approved by MinneDUers Unofficial General Counsel, Dan P. Brown - and is soley the opinion of northernsoul, who hasn't even finished his first year of law school yet, so what the hell does he know?*

4. Time to lock up my purse again
Thanks for the warning. I'll make sure my wallet is under lock and key, and keep an eye on my 401k balance that day.

Also, I'll try burning some scented candles, to cover the stench that fills the air when smirky or a member of the evil cabal visits.

5. I suppose the "non political" event
means the taxpayers get to pick up most the tab for this.

8. If we could find out exactly where the event is being held...
I would be willing to demonstrate. The sandwich board idea is a good one...although I don't think it would be necessary to be naked. ;-)

I got an email from mydfl.org that said there's going to be a very special welcoming committee for El Presidente.

13. According to the Strib
the "private event" is being held at the home of David Frauenshuh - a local real estate titan. His home is in the Indian Hills section of Edina which, I think, may be near Braemar (but don't quote me on that).

15. .
Funny, I was at Target Center the other night and Fraueschuh's name is on the plaque next to the statue of George Mikan.

I drive for Metro Mobility and every time the President comes to town, traffic is just h*ll for hours with all the freeway shutdowns for the motorcade - thank heaven I don't work on Monday!!!

16. Given where Bush's private fund raiser is
I'm worried about getting home tomorrow. I know it is somewhere between my office and home. I would imagine the Hwy 62 will be a mess because of this.

14. Nonpolitical event?!
What a crock of cattle cack.

The fundraiser is obvious and natural. But, apart from possibly grabbing a small amount of electoral votes, what use is MN to him?

Unless 'nonpolitical' means he's got a bit of fluff he wants to jump in the sack with...

17. did anyone make the protest? I couldn't go
Couldn't leave work until 10:45. If I'd been thinking I would have Mapquested that guy's address and taken a drive through Edina. I did see a hand-painted sign saying "Bush Lied" on an overpass over I94 W on the way into work about 6:15 Monday morning. Don't know how long it stayed up; it was gone by noon.

18. I made it to the protest...
There were about 150-200 people there. A few were there for Bush but it was mostly anit-Bush. One Bush supporter kept chanting four more years while holding up 5 fingers...and her sign was upside down...too funny! She and her friend were quoted in the MN Daily student news as saying:

University first-year student Giovanna Elli was one of four vocal Bush supporters the crowd drowned out.

“A lot of people are here saying (Bush is) a murderer for going to Iraq, but if he wouldn’t have done that a lot more would have died,” Elli said.

Century College sophomore Anna Ochoa agreed.

“At any minute, we could be attacked,” she said. “We need to protect our people here.”
