Support the Homeward Bound Resolution
Step by step, Congress has been moving away from its unflinching support of war in Iraq. The next step to maintain the momentum toward peace is the bipartisan House Joint Resolution 55, "Homeward Bound." The resolution calls for the Administration to begin withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq no later than October 1, 2006. It also requires the President to announce a withdrawal timetable from Iraq by the end of this year.

The bill, which had 7 sponsors and co-sponsors when introduced in mid-June, now has 45 Congressional co-sponsors. This is a perfect opening for us to show Congress that the majority of people in the U.S. want peace. It is particularly opportune because the resolution has both Republican and Democratic co-sponsors. This cannot be dismissed as a partisan vehicle.

We need to tell Congress to stop supporting this indefinite war in Iraq. Ask your Representative to co-sponsor the "Homeward Bound" resolution today. Follow the link below to take action.

Representative Betty McCollum
United States House of Representatives
1029 Longworth House Office Building
Washington, DC 20515-0001

Dear Representative McCollum,

Please support H.J. Res. 55, a bi-partisan resolution introduced in
mid-June by Representatives Neil Abercrombie (D-Hawaii) and Walter
Jones (R-North Carolina) and other legislators.

This resolution calls on President Bush to develop an exit strategy
for U.S. troops and start bringing troops home by October 2006.

This resolution is a first step toward a new path for U.S. policy in
Iraq. Instead of funding troops and building bases, we should begin
to help Iraqis rebuild Iraq.

The continued U.S. troop presence in Iraq is counter-productive. We
need to bring the troops home.

Sincerely,
