Granholm - Devos debate
Devos looks like a rabid, stuttering dog. God I hope the people of Michigan see through that POS.

2. Loved the glasses to cover beady eyes
But you can't cover up insincerity.

3. Were the glasses to make him appear more......
intellectual???? It did not work because he looked like a stuttering idiot as usual. He is no match for the Gov. If he were our candidate, I would have slid off my chair and hid in shame!

4. His best debate so far...
but not what Michigan needs, that's for sure! No answers, no plan, no direction (no speech teacher in public school!). I simply cannot understand why people would vote for him. His fake smile at the end of each turn looks rather like a grimace. He tries to look business-like with the glasses, but just isn't working. I liked the expressions on the faces of some in the audience, especially the golf pro, when DeVos was "answering" their questions.

5. What were the expressions?
I missed them as I was reading through DU (listening more than watching).

10. Golf Pro...
was, I would say, 50-ish. He is the one who asked about what they candidates would do to bring Detroit "back into Michigan". While DeVos was talking (and not really answering the question), the guy's face just kind of went blank. I thought you could almost read "you're not sayin' anything" on his features. When Granholm was talking, the guy wasn't smiling, but he was paying attention and slightly nodded a couple of times.

Another woman asked about what would be done to improve the state-wide public transportation system. DeVos's answer was vague (gee, what a surprise), but she outright smiled while Granholm was talking.

7. Granholm Gets Better; DeVos Gets Worse
Very nice and very impressive; these debates have made me even more proud of Granholm. She really is intelligent and on-the-ball about the issues--both problems and solutions. There is a very new WDIV Ch. 4/Detroit Free Press poll, just the past couple of days, showing a big increase of Granholm's lead over DeVos. It had been about 3 or 4 %, and now is Granholm 49%, DeVos 41%, Undecided 10%. These debates have been a wonderful, unfiltered public platform for both of them, and again Granholm was smart and conscientious, with facts organized, and friendly; and again DeVos was weird, creepy, both obnoxious and evasive, and just weirdly grinning and taking shots at the same time. Keep it up!

8. If the vote goes for DeVos
Edited on Mon Oct-16-06 09:02 PM by vanboggie
It will be clear that there was a whole lotta cheatin' going on and we must take to the streets.

He forgot to address the offshore tax shelter in Bermuda question. Hmm. Wonder what that means.

9. Guv nailed him in the beginning about some ad...
Edited on Mon Oct-16-06 09:11 PM by maddogesq
which I have not seen. According to the Guv, the ad(s) included pics of dead kids. Can someone give me a link to what she was talking about? I have never heard such a fierce tone in her voice as I did then. I understand that if true, it must be terribly gut wrenching for her as a mother.

Those eyes have it!

Nuff said.

14. I haven't seen this ad, either, but I am curious
Is it about the adopted kid who got killed by his parents in Lansing (Ricky Holland)? DeVos brought that up in an earlier debate, and the Gov said that the prosecution of the parents was not over and the DA on the case had specifically requested her not to talk about it until after the trial.

11. He had all that money, time, and contacts
and he wasn't able to work out any specifics on how to improve Michigan with the budget that we have. That was the last debate and still no answer on how the billion cut from the SBT would be replaced without cutting services. How do you replace a billion dollars with nothing but leadership?

He could've afforded a better team to help him work it out. Or tell him to shut up about the SBT after the first debate.

I'm not counting the chickens yet, but I'm glad it looks like Michigan won't vote him in.

Granholm was factual, didn't deny the problems the state is facing, and offered examples of ways she's trying to set things right. She mentioned the $4 billion dollar deficit she inherited yet didn't waste all of the debate time harping on Engler. No magic words like "leadership" and no magic money.

12. I'm amazed...
I have trouble believing that anyone could go through three hours of debate and provide any less information than DeVos has on his plans (or serious lack thereof) for the state. And over the course of the debates, DeVos must have set a new record for most use of meaningless political cliches in a debate--the man definitely has a gift for talking at length without actually saying anything. Governor Granholm recognizes that Michigan needs solutions and action; Dick thinks that he can solve the state's problems by blaming others.

13. He looked like quite the dork
Very awkward, nervous, sneaky. Hard to imagine he was the head of a major corporation. Although, if he wasn't the son of the founder, he'd probably be unemployable.

15. He is sneaky and you can see it in his beady eyes..
this must be the reason for the glasses. He doesn't answer questions he just says what ever the problem is that it needs to be changed and doesn't give any details,I don't see how anyone can believe that garbage just look at his lying eyes.
