MI Gov: Granholm (D) 49%; scAmway DeVos (R) 42% (Oct 8. Rasmussen)
After being edged out by Republican challenger Dick DeVos in two of our last three election polls, Democratic Governor Jennifer Granholm now leads 49% to 42% (see crosstabs).

(snip)

Forty-two percent (42%) are certain they'll vote for Granholm on Election Day. Only 32% say they're certain to vote for DeVos.

A big reason for the turnabout may be the first televised debate between the two candidates, held October 2. We conducted the present poll a couple days later.

Neither participant escaped criticism. But many observers think DeVos was especially hurt by his performance, which they saw as defensive, full of platitudes, and too vague about how he would reboot the state's economy. In short, not quite the well-packaged candidate of his TV ads.

2. I think that his own ads are also backfiring on him
It certainly didn't help him when he almost cried like a baby during the debates because she kicked his butt in the debate, but people in the eastern part of the state don't trust Amway at large. He's been running all these Amway ads, trying to make it look like this great company and we all know the truth about it.

BTW-there's a billboard on EB 1-94 between Ecorse Rd and Telegraph for "Republicans for Grandholm". I like that.

3. Looking good!
I like the way the numbers are looking but they are still a little too close for comfort. Hopefully the Governor will continue to impress in the next two debates. She unquestionably has the better presence and offers concrete plans whereas DeVos offers accusations and excuses. I've noteiced several newspapers referring to him as "Amway heir" Dick DeVos, so lets keep reinforcing that connection every chance we get.
