Detroit -- The Woodward light rail project "is going to happen," with construction happening by the end of 2010, Detroit Mayor Dave Bing said today.

Bing gave the assurance at the annual meeting of the Downtown Detroit Partnership, a private/public partnership of corporate and civic leaders.

The M-1 Rail is a proposed $125 million, 3.4-mile system funded by private and public investment connecting downtown to the New Center district along our region's main artery, Woodward Avenue. Woodward also is known as M-1.
