Administration's Program on Domestic Surveillance,
featuring:

This event will launch a CAMPAIGN TO RESTORE THE RULE OF
LAW. Please plan to be there if at all possible --
and get primed for the President's State of the Union message
the following day!

On the legislative front, the Resolution Affirming the Civil Rights
and Liberties of the People of Massachusetts (H.B. 1881) is at
last on the legislative calendar and could come to a vote at
any time. The White House is calling on Congress to vote to
reauthorize the Patriot Act before the temporary extension expires on
February 3. Massachusetts can send a message telling Washington
that common sense and critical civil liberties reforms must be made to
the PATRIOT Act before the law is reauthorized. This is
one we CANNOT afford to lose -- if H.B. 1881 is defeated, a very
different message may be sent to Washington. So your
action is urgently needed!

Please call your state representative and state senator as soon
as possible and ask them to support H.B. 1881, the Massachusetts
Civil Liberties Resolution.

Tell them that:

* Passage of this amendment is needed than more than ever, given
recent revelations about warrantless surveillance of US citizens
in violation of the law.

* At this critical time the Massachusetts legislature should take
a stand for basic Constitutional rights, and join the seven
states that have already passed similar resolutions.

* 53 towns and cities in Massachusetts have passed
civil liberties resolutions, and more than 104,000
Massachusetts citizens voted in the 2004 election to ask
the legislature to pass a resolution supporting civil liberties
and urging Congress to fix the USA PATRIOT Act. Wherever this
"Safe and Free" referendum question appeared on
the ballot in the Commonwealth, it was overwhelmingly
supported.
