Hudson high school could use our help (The freepers are coming!)
It's under attack from freepers and wackos. I had read the Boston Globe article about this kid who has apparently stirred the pot, but when I went out to google today, it seems the freepers have jumped all over this.

Here's the original Boston Globe article:
http://www.boston.com/news/local/articles/2005/02/10/conservative_teens_say_school_is_biased_against_them/

Here's a google search on "hudson high school conservative":
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=hudson+high+school+conservative

The first two items on the google search are from freeperville targeting Hudson. All the rest of the links except the ONE link from the Globe and the ONE link from the high school on this first page are from RW hit sites and organizations. I don't think I ever realized how organized these psychos really were.

Here's another link I found when I googled the conservative students name: http://www.freedomofthought.com/ Now this is an interesting read... (You have to scroll down a bit but enjoy some of the other items along the way...)

And finally, here's the link to High School Conservative Clubs of America: http://www.hscca.org/ (Their position statement was a frightening read: "Separate school and state: get government out of education" but then "Place the Ten Commandments in every school and courthouse". Things that make you go hmmm...)

I'm not even sure what help to ask for but I'm afraid my town is under attack. Any suggestions from the rest of you Massers?

1. The administrators are right
and any move you make should be to help them. These brainwashed idiots are stirring up trouble just for the sake of stirring up trouble

2. I'd feel bad, but it's Hudson...
 Just kidding!!!

The only thing I can say is maybe volunteer to answer phones for them to alleviate the burden? I mean, writing or calling is just going to put more pressure on them at this point.

3. Massachusetts is a very liberal state
and these people should realize that their club and their message will not be warmly received. If they can't deal with that, then I suggest they start looking at relocating to Alabama.

7. What kind of help the "brats" need? :-)
Well, I won't go there. ;-)

One thing my young friend (see post # 6 for that explanation) has mentioned is that she wants to stage a protest. My problem is I'm not sure she really understands what she's protesting.

There is an element of free speech in this situation but, if you gave a look at that conservative high school site, there's a little more to it than just free speech. There's a whole article about how Islam is not a peaceful religion and it borders on inciting violence. That, last time I checked, is illegal (although I'm not sure I understand the implications of it being on the internet and what cyber law may have to say about it) and might be, if carefully approached the angle to use in support of the administration. (It is in fact the angle I believe the administration is taking.)

I am not a parent so I don't necessarily have access to information about school meetings and such but I am concerned that many Hudson parents may not know what's going on here unless their kid is as political as my young friend. I was hoping there might be a way to just get the info out to people but again, the "platform" has to be meticulously crafted or we could end up shooting ourselves in the foot. I'm not a good personality to get people riled up and involved but I'm willing to use whatever talents I do have to get something going.

5. Egads.
I sympathise with the school admins because no doubt the abuse they are suffering will be over the top.

BUT

These guys need to go watch the episode in South Park where the parents figure out the only way to stop the invading Pokemon threat is to themselves start collecting Pokemon, which immediately results in the kids deciding Pokemon isn't cool anymore.

In reality the situation is much worse. You don't, you just don't, try to force anything down a Massachusetts highschooler's throat. You will always get the opposite result of what you intend, no matter how crafty you are with the "reverse-psychology." We may not be 100% liberal here, but our youths are just about 100% saturated with the first amendment (which is a good thing, no matter how much stress it causes the parents.) In fact, I suspect it might be genetically inherited by this point :-)

And if it is true about that poster of Bush being hung in the clasroom, that was out of line, no two ways about it.

6. I agree
The whole issue came to my attention by the high school girl who takes care of my dog. She and one of her friends are livid over this and I have been giving serious thought about how to address this with her. I want to support her but I also feel the need to make sure she remembers that the Democrats ARE the first ammendment party and it's a delicate and complicated situation to balance.

These conservative kids obviously have adult support (probably legally speaking) and I want to make that adult guidance and support available as well.

The thing that just astonished me is how coordinated the "other side" is. This single issue at small school in a small town in a smallish state is all over the conservative internet with not one link (that I could find yet) available from the other perspective. I'm a little wigged about that but it sure brought home the reality of the RW meme and strength of their propoganda machine.

8. "Liberal campuses"

It's right there in the Republican's tick-list. You don't get the Valley Advocate out there in Hudson but there was a cover story. I'm guessing they got their little talking-points memo in the mail and decided it could just as well apply to high schools.
