Massholes: Post pictures of your cities and towns
I don't drive outside of the 128 belt that often, except to travel for business. There are whole parts of the state I know nothing about! :-(

1. Lynn MA

Yesterday was the 23rd anniversary of the 2nd great Lynn fire. These aren't it, but Lynn has always been known for our fires.

There was a firebug in your city in the 70s and early 80s. My dad's firehouse would get called there occasionally.

8. My uncle and cousin were firemen at that fire
I remember I was taking the train back from Boston when we came right through the flames and chaos. Can't believe it was that long ago.

9. I have a Lynn Calendar at work
got it at the Historical Society and it has the fire listed.

The first Great Lynn fire was November 26, 1899, also on the calendar.

11. Lynn has a really cool history
I read about massive demonstrations in downtown Lynn in Howard Zinn's book People's History of the United States. I have to say I was really surprised at the revolutionaries that lived in Lynn during the late 1800's and early 1900's.

18. There's a great story about High Rock Tower
The land was considered public and they would have bonfires there to signify holidays and major events. At the end of the Civil War, someone owned the property and built a house there. People came to make a bonfire, but the owner wouldn't let them. So they lit his house on fire.

Is this a great place or what?

20. Lynn is filled with interesting little tales
I used to hate the place. Now I consider it a great training ground for life. I actually miss it.

I was going to move into this unit originally but decided to take the 4th floor instead of the fifth (it was cheaper) :)

But, I'd certainly love to.

22. I've only lived in "Meffa" about 4 years.
Edited on Wed Dec-01-04 07:36 PM by D__S
Before that: Somerville, Jamaica Plain, Allston, Brighton, Fenway, Brookline...

The name "Herbs" doesn't sound familiar (although I think I know the place you're talking about).

"Panda Palace" isn't that bad. I'll get something from there on occasion.

For the best pizza outside of the North End, give "Antonios" a try (across the street from PP next to the dry cleaners). To be honest, I think it might even better than "Reginas").

23. Not exactly my home town(s),
Edited on Wed Dec-01-04 10:53 PM by Longgrain
But by request of Kathy, a few hundred thousand pics from around the Great State of Massachusetts.

Starting from my home town of Gardner, heading west down Route 2, approaching Greenfield, a view from just beyond the King Phillips Bridge...

Pretty Dem area from what I've heard, a few art communities along the Mohawk trail.

Here's another shot from the bridge--the Conn. River.

Further west we reach Florida...

Though, no voter fraud in this Florida (I hope) just good old Yankee tourist-trapping. Just about everyone heading down route 2 stops here, and why blame them...I think I can see Howard Dean's house from here :hi: .

Traveling the Mohawk trail is fun and relaxing, but toward the end, things take a drastic turn. Surely anyone from North Adams recognizes this curvaceous landmark...Tom Hanks ran here once.

Going toward the east, back tracking toward the Fitchburg/ Leominster area, now. This time, I think I'll take 2a, since Route 2 west is a nightmare! (but at least they smoothed over the pavement a bit.)

This still stands, remaining unused in Lunenburg, MA...

If you turn around from this very spot, you'll see a very desolate sight, once filled with games and rides, now left to decay...

A little further east along 2a, Shirley to be specific, you'll find this curious, albeit un-PC landmark from days gone by...

A more conventional view. This is now a used car dealership, but it was once a night club, not far from Devans. Pretty rambunctious back in the day, from what I've heard...

One last stop, this old place, The Rosley Motel, still stands out in Ayer. Not a very good pic, I know, but I had to snag it quick...I think Tony Perkins was eying me from one of the windows.

That's it for now. I still got some more from the south-western part of the state I'd like to get up...

Longgrain
