Jeff Perry gives Mitt Romney grand helping hand

Former Gov. Mitt Romneys presidential campaign hauled in a whopping $18 million in the first three months of his campaign, including a $1,000 gift from ex-state Rep. Jeff Perry, records show.

Perry, a Sandwich Republican, lost last year to U.S. Rep. William Keating in a nasty race marked by controversy over Perrys role in a strip search scandal in Wareham in the early 1990s. Perry, a former Wareham officer, was at the scene of an illegal strip search of a teenage girl that landed another cop in jail. Perry denied ever witnessing the crime.

Despite the controversies, Romney, along with U.S. Sen. Scott Brown, stuck by Perry. After losing to Keating, Perry was hired to a $110,000-a-year job at the Barnstable Sheriffs Department, a patronage move that led Gov. Deval Patrick to veto $100,000 in funding for the sheriff.

A Romney spokeswoman declined to comment on Perrys recent campaign contribution.

1. So did I read that right? Perry got a $110K a year job after he
lost his Congressional race?

Is he still in that job?
